Hey everyone. You might remember my first Halo build out of pepakura, especially if you were at Dragon Con.

Truth be told, I made a ton of mistakes. I'm not entirely sure how I made it through the Dragon Con parade (duct tape helped) but the suit kinda fell apart after 2 conventions. I didn't use enough fiberglass and it was really hard for me to move around.

Then over the winter I decided to practice foam armor building and made myself some n7 armor... with a twist.

With the experience from the N7 armor I felt comfortable enough to take on my first Halo build out of foam, and I have chosen Carter from Halo Reach with the goal of getting this done by Otakon and Dragon Con. So here's the start.

Huge thanks to Spacemeat for his videos, they have been an enormous help. There were a few pieces that I used only hot glue as an adhesive as opposed to barge cement, and I am unhappy with those results so I'm going to redo those pieces. The shins turned out okay with just hot glue so I'll keep that and fix any issues during the patch n paint phase.

Going to start the forearms tonight.

Dude, that looks pretty nice! Sorry to hear your first suit fell apart, that's always a bummer. You look like you've got this pretty spot on now, this is gonna be good when you're done

Thanks

Yea, you live and you learn, eh? Nobody's first build was perfect. Heck, one of the Dragon Con veterans loved my old school armor, reminded him of the armor he built way back in like 2007 or something like that.

Looking good so far I agree as we'll and also love the other two older suits they look amazing! Wish I could go to dragon com like you did :D

Last year was my first Dragon Con... it was a mind blowing experience.

Right forearm is crafted.

Sorry for double post, but update: both forearms are crafted. Boots are next.

Boot... kinda done. Had a surprisingly hard time with this one, felt like I could have made it a bit cleaner, but hopefully the patch n paint should cover up the issues.

I have some Kung fu shoes lying around that I slipped inside for comfort. Need to glue them down to the foam.

Quick update tonight, second boot is crafted. Have the details pinned in for now to make sure that the symmetry is correct before I glue it down. Next up are knee pads, then biceps, then helmet.

Sweet build. I always have the most trouble with the forearms and thighs so hats off to you.
Thanks. Barge cement helps a ton. Makes life so much easier.

So update:
769b21cb28fc5c4a15d00b86e827625b.jpg

Got the small pieces crafted (hands and knees), and...

de1569a7fce0c4b1bd17bddefe8e4c1e.jpg

The bicep... I have 15.5 inch biceps... pretty sure the bicep piece is the right height, but because my bicep is so big the piece is too small in diameter. I'm going to try and add a piece of foam to increase the diameter rather than redo the whole piece.

Got kinda burned out tonight, played some Halo to get my mind off of things. Will pick back up tomorrow. Might have everything ready for paint by the 4th although the helmet could be tricky.

Thanks for the love so far. Small update tonight:

Finished crafting both bicep pieces. On the left one you can see the piece that I added to increase the diameter of the piece.

Also did a quick test with the chest and the forearm armor. Next up is the commando and mark V shoulders.

Shoulders are done, just need to glue them to the bicep pieces. Codpiece is next, then the helmet.

Looking really good. The fit looks spot on.

Good to know. Sizing is always an issue for me. Case in point...

The codpiece. The first one I made was way too small, this one is a little big, but at least I can make this work. Last big piece to craft is the helmet. I'm going to pep it. Originally considered foam, but then changed my mind.
