I have actually been on the 405th for little while now and saw the reach odst build and thought maybe I would try and do it. Seems easy enough. So here are my first few pictures of the build and I will post progress so feel free to comment ,criticize, or if you have any tips, that would be helpful too. Here they are:

It's looking solid for a first build!! Keep in mind those beveled cuts and to sharpen or change your blade often.

I gotta say, I think it's safe to assume that DFT has single-handedly (well, for the most part) created a full-scale ODST movement.. and I just might join the drop into hell! Lol

Looks good so far. I got one tip for you though, change blade more often. It will make the edges look smoother and it will be much easier to cut. Looking forward to see your progress. =D

Thank you everybody for the compliments just finishing up my 2nd guantlet hope to post some more photos soon

I have to agree with the others. You really need to change/sharpen your blade more often. If you have the resources a Hot Knife will really help you out. But even with that you still have to frequently clean/sharpen the blade.

Also I will speak from experience. Loose the hot glue gun. Switch over to contact cement or Barge cement. Will generate considerably cleaner joints and joints that you can sand down to clean up. If you stick with the Hot glue gun make sure you are using High temp glue. Do not use the multi temp glue you will regret it because even just leaving your armor in a car in the sun is enough to start separating seams even with High Temp glue.

But welcome to the ODST ranks. DFT is a good place to start and you can generate some really nice Armor with his stuff. I started there a couple of years ago and I am on my 4th version of my ODST. None of my stuff is DFT based more of a mix of Hugh's and other people as well as some unfolds I have done myself.

Agree, you might want to change blades bit more often, but overall it looks seriously very nice.
Just, as a suggestion - did you think about cleaning up the hot glue excess? Getting rid of it will improve the general look a lot.

Here are some more progress pics I just finished the guantlets I'll keep in mind get rid of the glue excess so anyways here are some more photos

Holy cow, you're just sprinting headlong through this build. It's looking great for something completed in just over a week. Well done.

Another update: So i've been taking a few day break from my costume and im picking it back up again so look for more updates some time soon..

As I've seen with many attempts of the DFT ODST build, the helmet isn't worth starting all over again, but you're going to want to round it out more at the top via sanding down the corners and adding clay or whatever to the low points. Other than that, it looks better than anything I've ever made!

Good to see another DFT build! I'll be making one too in coming months after I have made more progress on my cortana build

Sweet, another DFT build! I'm loving that there's so many of us on the boards using his tutorials! You're inspiring to me to continue on mine :)

Forgive my ignorance, but I think I missed the memo.. what is DFT again?

Andrew DFT or DaFrontlineTrooper is a prop and armour maker who does some YouTube tutorials that are focused on getting people with little experience from zero to finished costume using basic and easily found materials. He's also prepared a book of templates for the Halo Reach ODST armour variant which apparently started an ODST hype train.

tl;dr DFT is a cool dude that inspired a bunch of people to make costumes of equally cool dudes.
