My husband and I decided to make minature Halo Helmets and a Cortana chip as ornaments. Over the next few posts I will show the pics in progress. As of now the helmets are molded, and we are starting to cast them for sale as well.

First, the raw 3d prints.

Re: Halo Christmas Ornaments

Here are most of the prepped helmets after spot putty, and filler primer, and a lot of sanding.

Now one of the 10 helmets that we originally chose we did not like after it was printed. It simply did not look right to us. That was the Jorge helmet. So we replaced it with the Oceanic.

Now we have pictures of my husband making the clay mold layer for the molds to rest on, and making the mold boxes.

Re: Halo Christmas Ornaments

The next step was to make the silicon rubber for the molds.

After mixing the rubber @Kusak used a vacuum chamber to degas the silicon so that there would be fewer air pockets to worry about.

Then he poured the degassed rubber into the mold boxes.

Here is the un gloving of the first half of the molds

Here he is cleaning up the clay so that the second half can be made.

From here you make the mold box again just with teh silicon from the first half now on the bottom instead of clay.
