"Become the Arbiter..."

Hello to my friends of the 405th. Man I have't worked on a halo costume since Reach's release. But it's good to be back. So, here I am showcasing my current work on my arbiter armor, specifically the Halo 5 variant. This is a foam build, as I will be using it mainly for sparring purposes. Sparring you say? Well I took up sword combat at the start of the year and have been learning various styles such as fencing, hema, long sword, and rapier. I got started via a friend who is part of the star wars community and has since talked me into competing in a tournament for weapon duelists next June. I like star wars, but halo will always be my first love. SO! I plan to represent the halo community in my own lil way with this project at the tournament. Ideally, I would love an energy sword to fight with and I'm currently working on building one. But unfortunately there's no immediate way to make my Prophet's Bane duailng capable right now. I will upload WIPs of my 3D models, and to those of you who have 3D printing experience, I would love some feedback on making a duel worthy energy sword possible. Seriously! why should the star wars fans get their stunt light sabers, and we halo folk not get our energy swords that can take a beating? Let's do this!

The helmet looks pretty cool! I don't know much about sparring/fencing, but won't the foam get messed up from being stabbed and stuff? I just feel like EVA foam won't stand up too well to taking a beating like that

The foam stands up fairly well actually. As much as I've been sparring with it, the only damage I took was due to a thrust from a long sword. It was right on the seam which got punched in a little, but I was able to fix it. Been toying around with the idea of coating the foam with resin for a hard shell, or some other material that might make it a bit more resistant to thrusts

Sure, i dont like how elites look from Halo 4 and onwards but yours already looks pretty badass.
Also, you mentioned HEMA and rapiers. . Mate. . I have immense respect for you right now. .
You should also learn another sword that could probably be used much like one of them energy swords since they have that shape near the hilt and all . .

Which version of the elites do you like most?
And thanks. I'm pretty pleased with it myself so far.
I see what you did there XD I'm working on designing a light saber for the tournament that has the traits of the energy sword. I'll post a design of it later once it's more flushed out. If i can duel wield a couple of them I'll be sitting pretty. I prefer using two blades so i can actively use both my hands for guarding and striking. It feels more natural for someone who likes to throw punches.
Do you do any sword styles?
I would love to have a company that made custom energy swords that 343/microsoft was ok with. I have some energy sword designs that i thought were pretty cool and customization options if needed. Cause who wouldn't want their own personal energy sword?

You have a point. More specifically I'm trying to make a light saber with the forked prongs. I'm trying to gather the parts I need to make it possible at the moment but that will take a lil time.

So I've been working on the 3D model for Prophet's Bane. It's currently a general model, rather than 1:1 scale (blade sizes mostly) Thinking about how to connect the hilt guard and how the blade/s would be held in place.
Still have long way to go before I attempt to have this baby 3D printed (hopefully) If anyone has tips/suggestions, I'm happy to hear em. What I've done so far was take the template from the adafruit energy sword and scale my model up to its size. Like I said, I'd like this to be a 3D printed project. But if you want a pep file made, just let me know.

If i were to pick, i'd say Halo: Reach elites.
Halo 3 werent bad, but Reach elites take the cake in my opinion.
As for sword styles, for a brief period i was learning those choreographed moves from star wards with a 30 euro Vader lightsaber and ive been reading up a bit on the use of Rapiers and Parrying daggers since I am planning to work on a REALLY big animation at some point and i want it to feel genuine.
I'd love to try out HEMA some time but there's no center that i can find in our lil island of Paros in Greece

I LOVE all the Halo 4/5 Sangheili designs and Thel's Kaidon armor looks SO damn good, so sharp and dangerous.

I definitely liked the Reach elites at the time. my only gripe about their style were the long teeth since i was so used to seeing them with shorter "canines" in all the previous titles. But i did like the new armor variations. I do like the reclaimer series elites a lot though.
Were you learning a specific sequence of moves or just learning choreography in general? And good, that you're wanting your project to feel genuine. What's the project if you don't mind sharing. Or is it super secret?
Oh wow! Greece?! That's awesome! But damned shame there's no studios out there =/ I think we had a Hema tournament over here a couple weeks ago, but I was out of town at the time. If you ever happen to be in the California Bay Area, let me know and I'll see if there's any Hema classes going on at all.

And Thank You Commander Palmer (never thought I'd say that, haha) But, yes, definitely looks dangerous and intimidating as hell. At some point I'm going to paint Thel's face on the mesh of my fencing mask.

I couldn't agree more, everyone should get lightsabers! The helmet idea is fantastic. I have a bunch of buddies who are into HEMA and saber fit.

And update time. Been messing with using resins and the foam I'm using and having some pretty good results so far. Will have images for that after the holidays are done. Nearly done with the shoulders, just needing a little touching up here and there. The right hand guard is about 85% done. I tested it out in a saber meet-up and they worked well, but a couple whacks to the hand showed that the fingers needed some more protection. A friend actually got his thumb broken from that... not by me. Getting to work on the shin guards next.

That looks really good so far SjSUSSPARTAN. What kind of forces will you energy sword have to withstand for HEMA combat? TwinMustang, I'm kinda trapped the same way. I'm working on a suit of maille armor right now at the same time as my MK IV gen 2 Master Chief build, and needless to say nothing is close to partial completion.
