    Construction thread

Yah, I got the paint cues from you and tried it because I was so thoroughly impressed (I'm really rusty with a brush and it shows), but had a real, real hard time trying to get the lines straight/uniform. How do you do that? And how do you paint on a curve and make it look so smooth? Mine...

    Construction thread

I know I haven't updated in awhile, pretty busy. Anyways, wanted to share a couple of pics and a warning about installing the visor. First, here's a few pictures of my helmet sans visor: [attachment=1029:$k1.jpg][attachment=1030:$k2.jpg] So I go to install the visor (trimming off the ends...

    Skullworx setup help

This is the Skullworx unit. It's designed for Stormtrooper helmets but can be adapted for other costumes. I have everything figured out except what to do with the speakers. I don't want to put them behind the vents in front, because I plan to set the fans there. I'm leaning towards either...

    resin help

You'll need to apply the resin to the outside of your pieces so they don't collapse during fiberglassing, so you can proceed with that step while you wait for the next store run. Just mix the hardener with the resin (the containers will describe the ratios) and brush on the outside of your...

    Skullworx setup help

Hello all, I've managed to get my hands on a Skullworx setup and I'm figuring out how to adapt it for the MJOLNIR helmet. There are a lot of references to Skullworx in the forums here, but no real tutorials as yet for installing it (maybe after I'm done I'll write one) in a non-Stormtrooper...

    resin help

What exactly are you trying to do at this point? The reason I ask is that everybody's got their own idea as to what constitutes "done with my pepakura." So if you could let us know the stage your at, maybe we could be more helpful.

    armor detailing

Because I'm too tired at the tail end of my project to start slapping more Bondo on my sanded pieces, I've started hand-painting my armor (inspired by 4ng31's thread here). I'm not nearly as good as his girlfriend, but I can hold my own, haha. It's amazing how the little details make the...

Face-shield fit in a PEP helmet

I've got one of those liners from Scorpion Sports and nothing sticks out at all. The ear guards are seperate from the head pad, so you could just use the top portion if the other two don't fit.

need help on fiberglassing tight spots

Trying to get sticky fiberglass into a 3/4" space was not my idea of a fun afternoon, so I used expanding foam for the bill. Be careful that you don't use too much (it keeps expanding for quite a while after you're done spraying). I did and ended up having to rip off chucks of it with a pair...

Face-shield fit in a PEP helmet

You can bend the HJC visors no problem. You'll need to cut the ends off of them to keep them from banging into your face / other stuff crammed into the helmet. Do test them out before you cut, though. It would really suck if you trimmed off too much. As for adhering them, some folks use hot...

    Glue Types

The gorilla glue we have around here is about $5 for a 2oz bottle. If it's a buck where you are, you must live in the gorilla glue capital of the world, or the store has a surpus and it's on sale or something. It's okay to be helpful. But there's a difference between speaking from experience...

    Glue Types

How can you recommend a product you yourself have never used through the resin process? I find that highly irresponsible. Might as well say, "Yep, I saw this at the store, got a big animal on the front, must be great!" Why don't you try it first, and THEN come in here and write a...

    Quick Question

Oh, THOSE flaps. Cut along the cut line. If the flap-gap is too big to glue the remainder properly, cut out another little piece of cardstock, make a new wee flap, and glue it in the empty place. Then proceed as normal. For the cut lines that create sliver flaps (tiny flaps that you will...

    Measuring out Resin

I used a measuring cup. They're cheap. 1/4 cup + 28 drops of hardener in a foil-lined container. Worked for me!
