WIP- Fully 3D Printed ODST Build

I guess rule number 1 is not to drop it, but on mine I reinforce the inside with fiberglass and resin. For the outside I’m planning on seeing how protective a coat of poly on the outside will be. The sad truth is that pretty much all the filler material is brittle and will chip if you drop it...

WIP- Fully 3D Printed ODST Build

I used 0.2mm layer heights for pretty much everything, 195 C, 15% infill, 3 perimeters (4 for the chestplate). I covered everything in the spray filler and smoothed over the seams and rougher areas with the spot putty. I will say though: dread it, run from it, you’ll still have to sand the...

WIP- Fully 3D Printed ODST Build

I did! I think that it specifically said “sandable filler” I think what did a really great job was the spot putty that I bought though. It didn’t survive the fire, but I wanna say that even though I used it on the whole suit there was still 1/4 of the tube left, a pretty good amount! I’ve messed...

Because I would hate to misrepresent them, here is their exact response. My original email had pictures of the fire damage and the remains of the printer, and was asking if my printer was defective and letting them know that their product may be unsafe. At least I'm their friend though.

WIP- Fully 3D Printed ODST Build

Alright I'm leaving my last post up so that my enthusiasm can be documented. Do not buy the Anet A8 without making significant modifications. Friday morning I woke up and went to check a print job that I had started the day before. Even with a fast printer, jobs for this sort of project can take...

WIP- Fully 3D Printed ODST Build

They still aren’t super cheap, but here’s the exact one I use Anet A8 Desktop 3D Printer only $124 USD! When I got the Anet A8 it was about $200, but it’s served me faithfully for over two years and has never had a problem that I couldn’t fix. I printed all of my stuff on this printer and as...

Haha I never would have noticed! Thanks for pointing it out, I’ll turn it around.

I like the way you put that, I guess I am trying to tell a story with the armor and the various impacts, burns, and grime are all a part of that. Thanks :)

WIP- Fully 3D Printed ODST Build

Well while we are talking about going through hell and back, here is the assembled armor so far. I was going to sit on these photos for a while so there will not be any long periods of inactivity from me while I sluggishly work on things, but I am pretty proud of how things are turning out and...

Some more glamour shots of the helmet as it is right now. How does everyone feel about the amount of weathering? When I step back and look at it, it really looks beat to hell and I notice most other people have their armor a little cleaner and less banged up.

ODST Build 1: The Journey Begins

I would also like to add that for me, things do seem to pick up after you finish a piece! You kind of rally because you have something whole in front of you to look at :)

ODST Build 1: The Journey Begins

Unfortunately pep can be quite tedious for more detailed pieces, I did a Daft Punk helmet with pep a few years ago and even though it’s mostly smooth surfaces it took quite a bit. Don’t give up though! I would play a movie or some music in the background and kind of use it to unwind after...
