Hey fellas. Im planning to vacuum form odst armour but i have some questions first:
Is it possible to vacuum form over foam? (as in the foam people make armour from). Would it work or fail hard?
Is fibreglass and pep the only way?
HELP!
Cheers
thanks shrubpig and mrmikeman! The original helmet is from Hugh Holder (think i got that right). He game me permission when i purchased one of his casts to muck about with it and recast. Hugh's is sweet, i just found it a bit skinny in the front so i fattened it out.
Heya fellas. Small update. No pictures as of yet sorry. Ill post them soon.
I cast two helmets. First one was a disaster and is all warped and i will end up throwing out. I think i was too hastey. Its sticky cause i didnt mix the rotothane properly and yeah gross. The other helmet was way...
Yeah i dont use any smooth on products. I cant get them affordable in australia. Its cheaper to go with a brand called Barnes located in my city. I've used Barnes before and it hasnt failed me yet!!! I use plaster because its super cheap and easy to work with. Takes forver to dry though as thick...
I made a master chief helmet like 2 years ago from halo 3. I pepped it and i kinda rushed it. I resined it on the outside and inside but didnt fibreglass it. Its strong but its a little flexy like those masks you get in the party isle at the supermarket. You can do that (cheaper still)
Depends on which method you go with. If its PEP then resin and fiberglass around $50 including bondo and paint otherwise like me casting around $250. If its your first id go with PEP first. Just be really slow and take your time. Itll turn out better
Update! I found these clips at work. I think they will do as the attachment between the chest and body piece.
ONTO PLASTER!!!! Did my plaster hard shell layers today. Very wet and i got old man hands.. using these bolts to hold em together when dry.
Yeah i agree foam is way easier. Im from melbourne so i know your strife. I did half on my Spartan Reach armour out of foam (half because i stopped because of school). Its like $14 or something for 4 sheets at Bunnings. Stanley knife and a hot glue gun, your good to go! Its fairly easy just time...
Try get your hands on that buzzbee toy gun that looks like an assault rifle, take parts from that. They're out of production though i think so might be hard.
OR
Using Pepakura make the top and back of the assualt rifle in card stock ;)
Another Update! So i put on two more coats of silicone using a thickening agent. Just means it bulks up the detail part of the mold more (less failure). Also cut the bottoms off some cups to make suction caps or what ever you call 'em! Took a picture of what product it is incase one of you is...
