    Sanding body filler. HELP!

Link in my sig = literal step-by-step guide. (And yes to files and spot putty!)

I WANT YOU! ...To lend me your opinions!

This is why they have crowd costumes and hero costumes. The crowd costumes are mostly small and/or out of focus, so you can just do those as nicely-painted simple foam builds- all the detail is in the paint job. Anyone who isn't in the foreground of the current scene wears this. Hero costumes...

    Bevel Cut

EVA foam can largely be worked like any other solid material. You cut out the materials straight, then sand down the bevels. Just like you would with MDF or steel. Most people use a Dremel, I assume it's possible to use a disc sander though. It requires a very light touch, and the fluff will go...

Mass Effect 3 - N7 Hurricane (High Detail, First MDF prop)

Muey sexy! And yeah, a tiny dump mold is definitely the best starting place. Once you realise that you don't actually have to be completely paranoid about every container and mixing spatula and every single surface the silicone might touch, it becomes easier.

Stuck: Need help for Locke helmet

If you do want it accurate, try this: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-GB#customize-h5 Hunter armour and helmet are both third from the far right end (just grab the scroller and drag, there are tons of options) on the bottom row. Black visor is called Midnight, 6th in from the left on the bottom...

    Alternative foam shaping methods

Harbor Freight heat guns are like $9. Always "on sale". Never heard of them going bad, either. You need to make templates from either yourself, or a dummy form of yourself. You wrap the area you're fitting in foil and duct tape, then draw on your pattern, peel off the foil/tape and flatten it...

    Halo 4 - Railgun Build

If you want a perfect facsimile, grab the OBJ model and open it in Blender. Scale it according to official figures and you can take measurements directly from the model as needed. No templates or compositing rulers required! That's how I did my BR85.

Mass Effect 3 - N7 Hurricane (High Detail, First MDF prop)

Pics look fine to me! Any idea how you're going to mould/cast it if you're intending to be able to add electronics? Need to be able to get in there with batteries and wiring and stuff. And be prepared for both your silicone and resin to go less far than you'd anticipated! I'd probably do...

Should I give up on foam and try pep instead?

Fair enough. I'm comfortable with breaking down complex objects into components at this point, so it's easier for me to just "engineer" a solution rather than try to follow someone else's specific workflow. I'm planning on building a relatively quick (maybe custom/mix&match) H4 Marine...

Should I give up on foam and try pep instead?

I don't really understand this "one or the other" attitude in cosplay. As Naasad relates above, different materials are good at different things. Hybrid material builds are traditionally standard in any kind of fabrication, and tend to look the best since each material is playing to its own...

    "Help!" for: Painting

Option 1: Paint your helmet all silver, add battle damage masks using condiments, toothpaste or actual latex masking fluid. Paint your helmet its actual colour, then pull/rub/wash off your masks to reveal the silver underneath prior to starting the weathering coat. Option 2: Paint your helmet...

Seeking advice on CNC routing weapons

Here are some of the pics. I put PVC behind because the slide cover looks curved inside. But you could easily make it so that it's just the top part and the inside, then add the slide walls afterward.

Seeking advice on CNC routing weapons

And therein lies the inherent problem with 3-axis "mills". If you can index it at the end of a run, it's doable. That's easier said than done though, on a basic table router. Personally, I cut those parts out separately with a scroll saw and band saw, so you'd probably be better off leaving...
