Welcome to the 405th. I'd recommend doing a pep helmet so that the detail is all there. I've seen some ok foam helmets but pep helmets have always looked better to me because of the detail. You can modify almost any pep file to work with foam if you have an understanding of the way it all works...
Ultimately it really depends on what you are comfortable with using. If you like using thermoplastics like worbla to make things then by all means share your process through pics or what have you with the community. The old saying that there is more than one way to skin a cat is very applicable...
Google tamasoft pepakura viewer for a free version to be able to view the .pdo files. The .pdo (pepakura) files as Paigan mentioned are all in the armory section now. There are also a lot of .pdf files for foam templates running around also.
If you only download the free viewer or designer...
Thanks for the kind words. You're too kind. I appreciate you saying that I'm helping you get back into it also. Glad I can put some motivation out there too. LOL!
I have found a place in Austin (what I would consider driving distance :p) that carries the WED Clay and all the stone...
As always Thorn. . . . You're work looks great. I know I've been keeping up with your FB posts and stuff, but trying to get back to it on here. Great looking detail work. Nice and clean.
OK ladies and gentlemen. I have recently found some motivation, but an injury to my right leg (a torn calf muscle) and my son breaking his right wrist a couple weeks later in football practice have put things on hold again temporarily. I figured that I would let everyone that wants to know...
Thanks for the support, Halex. It is much appreciated.
I appreciate you taking your time to read through this build. I really do appreciate it. I would also like to thank both of you for the kind words about the progress that I've made on it. I would like to caution you two about...
I know I've been away for a while, but all caught up now. :p
I love the foam work for the undersuit details. It came out looking awesome.
Everything looks like it is coming together well.
Keep it up!!!!
Looking great as always, Thorn.
I like the Smooth-On 321 for working inside, too. You can work with it year round and like you said. . . . no stinking up the place with it. :cool
Keep up the great work.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words and support.
To get to some things that were left lingering without an answer before my mom passed. . . .
Thanks for the compliments. To answer your question about making that little stem piece out of foam. . . I actually am planning on doing...
Thanks so much for all the kind words and condolences. They are deeply appreciated and I feel very grateful to know that the community here cares.
I'm obviously still dealing with everything and it will take quite some time to make sure that all i's have been dotted and t's crossed. I'm...
I will get back with y'all on responding to any comments before this one in the future at some point.
:(
