As a computer scientist Steve's passing pains me. He is one of the men responsible for putting a computer in every home - an pillar of modern computing. As a cancer survivor my heart is broken because he was not able to win his battle. We have all been affected by the changes in technology...
Update time. Nearly done with details. I will be building molds next week.
Here are some shots of the finished helmet - I just need to mold it:
Here is a shot of some miscellaneous parts:
Here is a shot of the back (final), just need to build the mold:
Fudz073 - I'm sooo sorry it took this long to get back to you. I've been in the garage everyday working on the armor. To answer your question, the foam is used to fill the piece so you have something to carve into when you add detail. I've seen this approach used here when the builder knew...
Kamakazee88 - I was able to download it. I went to the page. I clicked on the download link, waited 90 seconds for the link to activate and let it download through the browser. Link definitely works.
Wanted to post a quick status update. Sorry for the long delay. I was out of town on business for a week. To further complicate matters i dropped my laptop and killed it. It is with Dell now and due back any day. So everything has been resined and Rondo'd. There was a little minor warping...
Bishorzidi - Thanks!! I'm never happy with my pep work (I've always been critical of myself). I'm pleased to hear you think it looks good.
LongShot-X - Thanks!! That means a lot to me. The SD cutter is awesome when it works. When it doesn't work it will make you more crazy than any other...
Greetings one and all!
So after months of reading forum topics, building smaller random project and refining my skills with the techniques that are covered here I have started my armor build.
The goal is to be done in time for Halloween, if I miss that I’d like to wear the armor to pick up...
So some history and realism. So in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, Corpsman and Medics wore the red cross. In the Korean war and Vietnam, when the enemy realized who the Corpsman and Medics were they were immediately targeted. The death of medical personnel was demoralizing and terrifying...
I heard that too.
For the Half Life fans, have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/user/PurchaseBrothers#p/a/u/2/q1UPMEmCqZo
It's called escape from City 17. It's been around for a while.
Gallard - Thanks!! I played with fiberglass on a couple of training builds and its just a pain in the neck. Plus, the fierblass resin stinks up the whole downstairs (workshop is the garage). I am going to move to aqua resin and Smooth-cast and stop using 3M fiberglass resin. The Bondo does...
Thanks!! I"m going to use Bondo brand Glazing & Spot Putty. It's red, has the viscoisty of the cream hardener. It's the cheaper of the Glazing Puttys available from Bondo. The other one is the blue stuff and expensive.
Okay update time!!! So since the 27th I have applied resin and rondo. I have applied surface Bondo, primer and a yellow top coat (indicator coat so I can see the low spots). I have sanded (60 grit), applied a second coat of Bondo and re-sanded (again 60 grit) and applied primer one more time...
RadioactiveMicrobe, I am. I would say it was "inspired by" the book. It's similar to the I Robot movie. It was "inspired by" the novel.
I can't belive I forgot Gears of war!!!
Half Life, Macross, Rainbow Six Vegas, Splinter Cell, any of the Lee Child - Jack Reacher novels and finally an actual version of Starship Troopers that is REALLY based on the novel.
