Another thing I'd like to point out is that there are a lot of helmets that come with "tester" versions so you can print them out, make them and judging by their scale you can add or drop to the scale or see if it's a perfect fit. The testers are extremely low detail and incredibly easy to make...

This is an incredibly irrelevant question but what lights do you use for that particular rendering style? I've always seen models with that lighting but I've never been able to do it. I use 3ds max btw

Hell yeah man about time someone does the original Mark V! After my ODST helmet and my Noble 6 tribute, I'm going to make a Mark V helmet. I'm debating whether or not to tackle the HD build from Halo 3, but I've always loved the look of the original Mark V Excellent job man!

As for fiberglassing the inside, most people cut the strips before applying resin to them and first put them inside the helmet and then put a layer of resin over it so it sticks. Usually around the tops and sides of the helmets this becomes easier. So yes, you put the fiberglass strips inside...
