working on a real armor prototype would be really expensive, I wouldn't pursue it unless you really need it for something like being a super hero or something. the Bear suit guy that made a bear proof suit made a real armor prototype, that could take a shotgun blast at point range, he spent his family savings on it, $15,000, and had to sell it because he couldn't support himself. The highest bidder for his suit was only $1,000.
