So I am back to the 405th after many life changes. I am going to sit down and build my dream set, finally, my player from Halo Reach. After that I may just expand my collection from there. But I need some help, I want to make the most detailed set possible, to minimize some of the work I would like to start with high definition models, and push them even farther. I do not have the time to sit down and go through every 3D file here on the 405th to find the very best, so that is where the community comes in. I am hoping that the veterans that put in the painstaking hours like myself cutting and gluing paper see this. I want the ones that made you scream when you saw the tiny parts outlined on your card stock. I would like to start with what my character in reach has, and if everything goes well and the I am pleased with the 3D printed parts I may even be willing to sell them. So the following information is the high definition pieces that I need help finding, along with a picture of my character. I might just even trade parts for help

As I find them, and as I investigate links that others have posted I will add them to their rightful place.

Initial Parts List:

Base Armor:
Mjolnir Mk.V

I have settled on using the game files. Most have been edited to HD quality.

Spine:
Using the only one I have located so far.
Going to lace 2 cables through them to give them a bit more fluid attached movement.

Helmet:
I have actually decided on two for now.
Mk. V helmet like Thom A293's (Can be seen in the Deliver Hope Reach Live Action Short)
ODST UA/CNM Variant

Left/Right Shoulder:
ODST
Using the game rip with added details.

Chest:
Collar/Breacher
Would rather avoid the original game rip. No detail really at all.

Wrist:
Tactical/UGPS
I might modify this to house my smart phone.

Utility:
Not set on any particular one, so is anything cool.

Knee Guards:
FJ/PARA
Using another game rip that I am adding definition to with blender.

Welcome ( back) to the 405th!

3-D printing armor is extremely new. Expect to spend at least 500 hours printing. And close to that in money to.

I 3-D printed my halo4 master chief/doughnut and it was a good five months of work.
A good starting point on 3-D printing would be king rahl's tutorial.
Once you understand how to properly scale then thicken the rest is rather intuitive if you use a 3-D printer in the past.

Do you already have a printer?
If not what is your budget?

If you intend on selling parts might I recommend you 3-D print to make a cast.
Or 3-D print so that you can vacuum form.

Peter,

Thank you for the welcome back!

5 months sounds reasonable, this is also an excuse to upgrade my printer and work towards better resolution prints. I am not to picky on a time frame, maybe have one finished by the summer... Maybe...

I do have a 3D printer, a heavily modified Makerfarm Prusa I3.

I could look into casting, tried it once was kind of a mess. I would have to practice on some things before I would consider selling them. But I do like the idea of a substantial armor set with more mass than my fiberglass version. Vacuum form is a possibility, and a good excuses to enlarge my current one...

Sweet! I am very familiar with the prusa i3

vac is fast and for some parts like rounded stuff on shins and legs it makes sense .

Awesome another I3 guy! My only complaint is the non rigid front on mine. It just got mounted in a cabinet last night to fix the constant need for bed leveling... Would love to get together on Skype sometime and swap ideas.

Updated the parts list, slowly starting to get everything together and get set up for the marathons of print sessions this is going to require. I am actually considering using foam on the insides of the armor pieces and having metric M4 or M5 bolts to literally clamp parts like forearms on to my body.

I am having trouble locating any builds that show off completed spine sections. Has anyone seen any made? I have also been toying with the idea of mixing in the Halo 4 spine, opinions on this?

Then the very controversial topic of the under suits... Is there currently anyone making and selling them, haven't seen any in a while. I may deviate from the usual game acurate path and go for looks instead. I will probably be referencing the Reach Deliver live action short.
