Hey guys, well, I've summed it up that my parents probably will not let me use resin/bondo...toxic
So, I was wondering, what would be a good way to seal cardstock so its ready for paint? Some type of spray-on?
And also, what would be another material that works the same as Bondo, without being Bondo? - Ice

ive been wondering this myself,

tell your parents that its harmless when wearing a respirator, because, well it is.

if that doesnt work, theres always "Aqua Resin" its bsically resin, but is harmless and non-toxic, howver, i dont know about bondo :/

Well, i think it was crossfire who used truckbed liner, which works pretty easy, and is a spray on.

SKG used aqua resin, which is non toxic, and just as good.

As far as a bondo alternative, well, there's spot putty, which isn't as toxic, but it is almost the same as bondo, you just have to layer it thin, not ideal for large areas.

There's also glaze as well, but it's along the same lines. I'm not sure if there's really a bondo alternative that works pretty decently.

well, you could do what i done for my handplates, and rather than bondo use Blu-Tack, then do a layer or two of resin over the top, (in your case aqua resin)

Oh this is off topic i think but...

Is there another name for Spot Putty? Ive gone to Home Depot and Ace and all the local hardware stores and stuff and noone seems to know what Spot Putty is.....

And by the way, if you are only wearing a respirator, the resin IS NOT harmless.

You need to wear all the safety equiment : Gloves, Long sleeves, Safety Goggles, A fully working respirator.

Even with all this, I'd not say that the resin is harmless.

I still wear gloves when I use resin, mainly because it's messy, but also because resin, if it gets on your skin, is very very hard to get off, and requires lots of scrubbing and "Fast Orange". Bondo isn't as bad, but it's still sticky.

Btw, a little off topic, what specific filter do you guys use in your respirator?

Before you use aqua-resin, you need to waterproof the cardstock and here's what SKG said about that:

Waterproof Sealer:
Krylon Acrylic Spray Paint in Crystal Clear with a Satin Finish (finish may not matter, but it's what was recommended)
You will need to SEAL your pepakura before adding ANY resin. It is water based, so it WILL warp and deform your cardstock! I will try to have pics of what happens when you do and don't seal it this weekend. As far as I can tell, and since this is my forst time using any kind of resin, you SHOULD leave supports in the pep files (if they were designed with them) I'm not sure how heavy the wet resin will be and the Sealer won't add much if any reinforcement.
