I would recommend getting soft, i got myself some medium and it was to hard to work easily... You want it reasonably easy to work with otherwise you will spend a tonne of time softening it.

Ok I orderd my ceramic tools and 4 pounds of soft clay just now :) just wanna see if i can sculpt and ill give a try and hand peices and ill post a pic when im done :D

Where does the parting line go and where do the thin metal plates go? Ill be using sonite wax if that helps.

Do the thin metal plates go across from side to side of the hemlet or from front to back?

The only reason I dont do pep is because it doesnt seem satisfying for me.

Making molded armor is plastic and more durable Im pretty sure and just for the fact that its plastic it feels more professional.. I dunno but I just dont think cutting all that paper and glueing all of it together and then fiberglassing and all that jazz just doesnt seem satisfying for me. Im not saying that molding is easier at all, im just saying that in the end, the molded armor probobly feels better, Besides, if you drop pep armor itd probobly crack, but molded armor is plastic so itd be like dropping a remote or a plastic toy, it doesnt break.. if its painted the paint will just scratch off a little but atleast it doesnt crack or get messed up :/

Oh, if you read closley in the molding tutorial of falcon NL it says you put straight down the middle. to hide the mark youput a thin layer of clay right down the middle then place the plates on top of the clay. then you do the mold on one side and then you take off the clay line and the thin plates and do the other side. you have to reall read. you may not understand things first but you'll get the hang of it like me and others. Oh and you should reasearch a lot before you ask question it helps. but try not to ask the question before you read some thing cause sometimes you make people mad if you ask it over and over again

You need more than that, like 30 or 40 pounds just for a helmet. you also need a lifecast of yourself. a mannequin

He's doing the smart thing and only sculpting the hand piece first, so he only ordered 4 pounds. If he decides sculpting isn't his thing, he wont have over $100 of clay lying around.

And TheSpartanMjolnir, my friend and I sculpted a MC helmet. We used about 20 pounds.

40 is a lot. And if the OP hasn't sculpted before, get a 4pounds bar and have fun.
