Here is a list of stuff to put into a finished suit of armor, I came up with it, wonder if it's possible.

two small camara's, the really small ones that are like wires, mount them in between where the helmet's led's go.

another small camara attached to index finger of one hand, it will be retractable and hidden inside the glove.

A bullet-proof visor, inside you would have thermal lens, night vision lens, and a third LCD, a two way radio, an intercom which uses speakers in the helmet to amplify what you say. The helm is sound-proof, and you have amplifiers which detect sound from outside, another, bigger speaker hidden inside chest plate. All controlled via voice-command.

A hard-drive inside the removable back part of the helmet.

A computer set up, and ability to connect various devices.

Ability to use the LCD screen to display like a lap-top when on, small retractable screen inside helm which shows view through hidden camara.

All camaras can record in real time.

A cooling system inside armor.

Armor made from bullet-proof plastic.

You basically just named the US Army's Land Warrior system. Though this would be cool (and expensive), what would the point be? Unless you plan on going around town with a working Battle Rifle saving old grannies who are getting their purses stolen, there is no point in having bullet proof armor and all of this nifty stuff. It would be cool non the less.

I also suggest you don't mention things like "bullet proof" here. It could give kids idea, kids act out idea, kids kill themselves, and the parents get sue-happy on the 405th.

lol little kiddies can't afford ballistic plastic.

I have seen lots of gadgets on the internet and in stores, and I think most of that is possible with a bit of money.

half of that stuff you wouldnt even really need unless you were like really going into battle. Thermal lens? cmon. good luck with that retractable camera in the index finger

i saw a guide on how to make ballistic materials a while back... but there is a use, the zombie apocalypse!

All I'd want is 3 Lights on the side of the helmet, 1 light is a small camera lense hooked to a internal LCD screen mounted infront of the visor, Battery pack in the back of the helmet, spy ear for the ability to actually hear people, and a speaker system so people can clearly hear me.

Though i doubt anyone will ever do the LCD mod, It still would be cool.

EDIT: I just remembered, being too close to a LCD screen will allow you see the each individual pixel, you'd need LCD glasses, they are a prototype at CES, they have small lenses and small LCD's in a pair of glasses which make your entire vision range what is on the LCD screen.

Other than that, there probably is no way of seeing clearly with a LCD screen inside the helmet.

Now someone just needs to figure out how to do it with a small enough screen to fit in their helmet.

Edit: I seriously want to try doing this with my LCD screen at home.
Edit 2: Ok I'm an idiot and didn't read through the first link there well enough. The image is in fact, a fake.

I plan to have mounted LEDs in the helm, a working radio, amp speakers to help people hear my voice better, and a small arm-mounted PVD (portable video device). That's all.

What about actual pre-made screens? I heard they make LCD glasses, is there anything that can be bought in Circuit City or some other electronics store, perhaps?

Remove the control board from the back of the LCD, and turn it on with all wires still attached, it will appear on, but dimmer since it has no encloser to seal in the light, I;ve done it before when I hacked my n64 to be portable. I took the back off the LCD and could see right through it when on, I had to put a aluminum sheet behind it to make it look look normal again.

ALl the guy did in the video was have a custom frame to hold the screen itself in, his control board for the LCD was sitting behind it on the desk, you can see the ribbon cable behind the LCD.

Danger though, you can ruin the LCD if you touch the back, it isnt as protected as the front is.

Also, the pixels are still there, so you will see blown up pixels and not be able to read/see what they are because you are too close to them.

I mean the pixels, you can see what is on screen, but not clearly enough, if you put your eyes infront of your PC screen, it becomes harder to read words or clearly see the image.

i don't think zombies use bullets...

but on another note, i am rushing to get a suit done before October's zombie outbreak in l4d. (just incase it really happens)

just a quick reminder to most people about lcd. they are all transparent but their is a glass reflector behind each one and two small light strings or tubes light the glass from top to bottom to make the lcd viewable. take apart an lcd screen and dont hold it up to a light source you cant see much at all.

You are correct sir. In fact this is the principal idea behind a DIY projector. I was going to post some pics of the LCD I have in mine, but alas I tried to log in with the incorrect password on photobucket too many times and locked me out for a while. To help make a stripped LCD a little bit more transparent you can remove the anti-glare film on it. I still haven't done this with my projector, but maybe someday i will.

Sorry for the double post, but here is the pic of a stripped LCD monitor that I have. It's really hazy to look through for 2 reasons. 1.) That anti-glare coating that I was talking about. 2.) there is a hazy piece of plastic in front of the LCD. Monitors have that hazy/rough plastic in there to diffuse the light in different directions, or at least that is my assumption.

.

When I find my camera I'll take a new pic because the hazy/rough plastic has been modified since that pic, as well to show what it looks like when it's turned on

Edit: Found my camera, here are a couple pics (BTW the LCD is upside and backwards because that is how it has to be to project the correct orientation onto the screen due to the projection lens)
