Hello 405th members,

So i signed back in to the 405th in about a month ago after dropping my prop building hobby completely a little after Reach released. I had a busy schedule between school and pursuing mountain bike racing, with little time for video games and building props. Well after being off the bike for 6 months and my recent enlistment in the US Army, I felt the gravitation back to here was only natural. I was lurking around here with ideas in my head, as Halloween was approaching at the time, and I was revisiting the idea of a set of armor as my costume. So after many nights of browsing through threads, I said what the heck, and drove to harbor freight to stock up on EVA foam.

Its pretty amazing to see all the new methods and techniques everyone has been implementing since I last checked in, and I have to say Ive seen some pretty incredible stuff throughout my recent browses. My last builds were all cardboard and good ol' Pepakura. Needless to say this will be my first knock at EVA foam so bare with me, and any tips and advice is greatly appreciated. All armor will be from scratch unless stated otherwise.

Armor will be as follows:
Helmet: Noble
Torso: Interceptor
Shoulders: Air Assault
Forearms: Interceptor
Legs: Undecided

Enough of my babbling, heres what ive been up to!

I picked up a Disguise MC helmet because who can say no to a $35 helmet? the visor alone made that purchase worth it to me! Here she sits after a nice repaint

Here is some progress on the torso, it is the Halo 5 Interceptor, as well are the arms. I went on the Waypoint site and used the Build-Your-Spartan feature to pick out my armor and use as reference

Slapped some black paint on just to have something to wear to a Halloween party. Received some battle damage from the covenants deadly vodka rifles and beer grenades. But all i need to do is add the rest of the details and paint her!

The quickly thrown together lower half so that I had a complete costume lol. It ended up not looking half bad for something i did in a couple hours, but this is not and will not be part of the final suit haha. As you can see the shins didnt feel like staying together too well

Open, slide on my arms and close via velcro. Simple and effective!

I decided to try and scratch build the Noble helmet out of foam, was curious to see how an EVA helmet would be. Not sure if i wanna keep going with this but we'll see. I am pepping Crimmson's file of the Reach Commando helmet on the side as well, and will modify it to look more like the H5 version. Dutch Props has a beautiful Noble Helmet model that i saw on his facebook page. Might have to pick up one from whoever he is making it for.
Started with visor, since i feel it is one of the more important shapes on the helmet.

Supports to hold shape and stay even (hopefully)

More to come stay tuned!

Freehand is a great method of doing these things. I really enjoy seeing freehand builds, this is really good! I chestplate especially. Keep the good work!

If you have time, I would like to see some more pics of the the repainted helm. Also, keep it up, your foam work is very good!

Thank you ArmoredAmir and SavedbyGraceG12! Ill get some more pics of the MC helmet uploaded.

Trying to figure out the whole 3D/unfolding stuff. Put the Noble helmet obj to an STL and into pep. Definitely need to make some changes to the model before I actually try and unfold it, so time to watch some youtube tutorials :lol

Edit:
So i now realize I didnt have to convert the file. But should i be modifying it in Blender, or Pepakura Designer? My goal is to smooth out some lines and get rid of details that would be better off done with foam

Update: If anyone is looking for the H5 Noble helmet ErMaC has done an unfold. Thank you ErMac I will be busting my butt tonight to try and get this thing put together.
File can be found here: http://www.405th.com/file-archive.php?do=download&downloadid=1189

This is going to be my first time trying to pep without numbers so hopefully all goes well :D Want this to turn out as clean as possible so wish me luck! haha. Got my coffee and tunes and am gonna try and bust it all out tonight

Also thought I'd show you guys the scale/fit of the armor, it is one of the main reasons i prefer scratch building, because its easier to build the armor to your proportions:
DBD1CED9-0ACB-44A2-A1EA-BC96155AF8C6_zpszr674cod.jpg
I have a pretty slim frame, and am not very tall at 5'9", so i feel like its important that i get the legs to be as slim fitting as i can, and scale my helmet to be as small as possible, but have a properly sized chest and scale a bit bigger on the shoulders to make them appear a bit broader. Gosh darn spartans and their heroic proportions.

My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach :lol Didnt even get close to finishing but hey, at least i think its turning out pretty good so far! Trying my best to do the cleanest job possible but boy does cutting and scoring get tedious.

Update:
Gave my BoomCo Magnum a paint job! $13 for a decent prop, cant beat that.
