So I've started my first ODST armour build, luckily my background is in Industrial design so shouldn't be too much of an undertaking. Im using the Rookie file by Rundown as a base for my build.

Started the pep phase. Few hours along and its coming along nicely. Will put it down for tonight and start again tommorow morning.

Still working out how to use the threads effectively. Heres the final pep for the odst. Going to head to the shop tommorow and pick up some fibreglassing resin. Anyone have any tips on resining the paper. Little thin compared to what I'm used to fibreglassing but I should be okay.

Very slight asymmetry in some areas but nothing I cant fix with some car filler and a file.

Sizing at the moment is somewhere between perfect and tight, going to open up the neck ring when its fibreglassed so that I can get my head in easier too.

You might find it easier to cut the hole now as when its fiberglassed it is much harder. If your head almost fits through now, perhaps removing 1 "ring" might be enough.

Yeah I'll probably cut the hole after resining but before the fibreglass. that way its still rigid and i can cut it pretty easily still.

So heres the supports I put in it before resining. Just hot glued a few supports (two tongue depressors connected with an office clip) into the inside of the helmet in key locations.

Nowhere near the workshop because I'm on holiday at the moment so have to settle for the house deck :) also the finished resined helmet. Just set it up on a broken broom handle to dry.

Reduced the neck ring so that I could actually fit my head in it. Fits nearly perfectly now too. Brought some 4mm tubing as well and put it round the edge of the hole. Looks much cleaner and makes the helmet a bit more stable round the bottom. May fibreglass it soon if it needs it and ill start applying filler over the top when I'm at my other place.

Started to think about the end result today too. Wanting to go for a more tactical look I may buy an airsoft military vest and add the odst chest piece and an altered backplate and neck protector so that it still looks like an ODST but having the vest will bring it up to a whole new level. Don't know if I should go with a desert khaki colour scheme or go classic odst dark grey.

Also thinking of a hood and cape set up as well. Some rough weathered canvas overlayed with camo netting would look pretty nice I think. Weathering will be key here.

Yes the airsoft vest would definitely be a nice touch
the colour scheme is up to u
and ya weathering would make it all come together but im sure the end result will be epic
good luck

Ooohhhh one of the more detailed files huh? Awesome! An airsoft vest is a smart idea- they can be inexpensive as well if you look at the right places like ebay's gigantic amount of sellers from china.

A cape/hood could be really cool, it's unique to say the least. Looking forward to it!

Ive got a presentation in class on fibreglassing in two days so I thought it would be good to use my helmet to demonstrate its strengths so im going to leave the bondo-ing until after then because itll be abit more dramatic for the presentation if it just looks like paper. For now though just did some sketches with the tactical vest rig and one with a ghillie-ish type hood. Gonna digitally paint up an ODST tonight so I can change colours and such so I can decide.

Yeah Ive got an army surplus store 10 minutes from me so I can get one for about 60 NZD. Might check ebay but with shipping included might be better to just by it from a retailer here.

Lets hope!! the helmet should only take me another two or three weeks depending on how busy I am but the rest should come quickly together if im lucky.

Your sketch with hood/headscarf looks dope. It kinda reminds me of the Hunter from Destiny. Yes? No? Am I looking into too much?

I havent played Destiny myself but yeah it does abit :D The hunters do look dope I must say but Ive always loved that kind of aesthetic in the stuff Ive built. Heres one of my drawings from around a year ago which i guess Im kinda going off.

Who those sketches are awesome it looks very detailed
Although here is a thought I had about the costume. Do u plan on attaching grenades or weapons on the belt or back cause I've though about it myself for my costume like Velcro or a some type of clip

Was thinking I might keep a rifle on a sling or maybe have a thigh mounted smg. Wasn't going to have mine carry grenades but im sure it could be done easily with either magnets or a clip of some kind
