Acetone I believe. I don't know 100% because I just use disposable ones.

in a pinch, gasoline or kerosine will work way better than water. I'll bet your mom/GF/Wife has nail polish remover as well, which will also work. But it still wont be perfect and shiny like you found it in the store, and a sploosh of gas costs about the same as a cheapo brand new brush(darn gas prices)
 
well then i am mistaken :p lacquer thinner it is, just get an old tin can and soak your brush in it for a little bit and try to clean it out.
 
In my opinion, you would probably save a lot of effort and probably even money by just buying a bunch of really cheap brushes in bulk. That way, you don't need to spend more on chemicals to clean them, and the time to do so.
