Chances Of Getting Arrested With A Demilitarized Grenade?

Ummm...this doesn't sound like a very good situation. Realish fake grenade+cops+laws=trouble. If you are running around, pulling the pin just to scare the Shnikes out of people you probably will get in trouble.

I would say that anything short of being at a paintball game, getting arrested is the least of your worries. I have heard too many stories of people getting shot by cops because their cell phone looked like a grenade, what will they do if you have a grenade, even though the fuse may be removed, they can't see that. My opnion: Fake grenade + Public place = VERY BAD IDEA!

Yeah, common sense told me that, but I just wanted to confirm. NO superrealistic grenades for my armor. Damn. XD

you do mean deactivated right?

And just don't be an idiot holding it out to the cops.

Or people you don't know.

Can one be arrested for having a hand grenade from a military surplus shop on their person...?

you can be arrested if the police feel they have just cause. even though its been disabled its still considered a threatening or implying of a threat item

Something to think about...

If you have a highly realistic grenade, pull the pin and toss it toward someone you CAN get arrested for terroristic threats

If you happen to have it in your car and an officer does a casual search, I would just tell him/her about it right away.

If you are walking around in public and security or a police officer spot you with the grenade I would venture to guess there would be a 50% chance of them confiscating it from you depending on what you told them and where you are.

They are just for show and conversation pieces. If you have a realistic one as part of a costume, at least paint the top florescent orange

It's generally not a good idea to have anything even remotely resembling a weapon unless it is just stupidly obvious that it's not real (i.e. you are a performer in a reenactment OR you're dressed up as a Marine from a video game at a convention or function). Even then, it's typically not a great idea.

If you are dead set on pursuing it though, a properly demilitarized fragmentation grenade will be painted solid blue and have either "DUD" or "INERT" clearly labeled in either permanent ink or paint. And I would recommend NEVER pulling it out of the grenade pouch.

You're best bet is to just not do it.

It depends on the situation. If you are at a convention or similar situation, the odds of getting charged with anything are very low. If you are in a public place on a normal day, you may be deemed a threat by law enforcement. You may have noticed the bright orange on the barrel of toy weapons. This tells people that the weapon is "harmless". I have heard of people having prop weapons confiscated even for parades, so check with your local law enforcement to see if this kind of thing is ok in your area for your event.

Be careful. It is ok to show in your home or at similar themed events such as a gun show, convention, etc., but keep it in the trunk of your car along with your other costume pieces when moving it from one place to another. I am a smoker and I sometimes roll my own tobacco. If I have cigarette papers, but no loose tobacco, I am in possession of drug paraphanalia. I always keep my tobacco and papers together in the (clearly labeled) tobacco pouch.

I would advise painting the top of the grenade orange to help keep it from getting you into trouble. You don't want to get put on one of those "terrorist lists".

Hell, those of us who wear costumes with weapons still need to worry about deailing with security and the police. I was working on a half-arsed SMG as a cop drove by my house, caused him to stop and question me. Super-realistic = terrible idea always.

That's a very bad situation. My friend got caught with the papers (he's over 18, trust me :p), when he told the police what they were for, he couldn't back it up because he had no tobacco on him, so they gave him a hefty fine. They said he could have gotten prison time, but they couldn't find anything else. He had them on his dashboard and got pulled over for a random traffic stop. He learned his lesson about where he kept them after that, though. :p

And that can actually go along with this. If the police can fine you for something as little as that, imagine what they would do if they saw a person with a grenade on them!

if you're in your spartan outfit and you have your fake (or disabled) grenades on your hip our around there, I would say that they should know its fake or disabled, but if you arent in your suit I'd say just leave it alone.

If I saw someone with a grenade and they were not in a costume they would be eating concrete (and if they didn't gobble ground fast enough they might get a couple of extra breathing holes), get a nice pair of shiney cuff links and enjoy a scenic ride in the back seat (watch out for those imaginary dogs! They like to run out in front of police cars for some reason.) Now thats how we handle it in Texas and most other states have the same or very simular laws in reguards to weapons. To be on the safe side always ask your local law enforcement agency and explain the situation. They will let you know how to carry, transport and or display your weapons. ;)

A couple Halloween's back, I went as William Wallace from the movie Braveheart with a real Claymore sword strapped to my back. Not only was I able to walk around several cops without any problems, but I also had no problem entering about 5 or 6 different bars.

I'm sure if it was just carrying around a sword on some random Tuesday things would have been pretty different. But, if you're in costume on Halloween, I can't imagine you having any problems with a few fake grenades strapped to your costume.
