Clear coats - Gloss, matte, or satin?

What finishes do you guys reccomend? I don't want my helmet to be glossy but I'm not 100% sure what that looks like IRL.

I was thinking about satin or semi gloss but feedback/advice would be nice.

Also, would you guys recommend using a regular primer after filling primer during the sanding process or just the filler primer under the first coat of colored paint?

Thank you!

I prefer a more satin look. Glossy armour can look too shiny, and also highlight imperfections. My suit uses a Satin clear coat. My very first suit used a gloss clear coat though. 1st pic is Satin, 2nd is gloss.

I like to do a coat or regular primer. After you've finished the sanding/filler primer/spot putty stage, your armour piece may have spots of bondo, plastic, and other different colour things all over. One coat of sandable primer (not filler primer) will give the piece a even colour so you can spot areas that might still need work. If no work is needed, proceed to paint. If there are areas that need attention, go ahead and sand/fill them. It's a nice final check before painting.

One last thing, the "questions and support" subforum is for questions related to the forum website itself. Crafting topics would be better suited to go under "halo costumes and props" or "new recruits". We'll continue to use this thread here, but for next time now you know.
