There are a lot of possible causes here... what you've said so far is like going to a doctor saying "it hurts!" 
...that being said, lets start off with some questions:
What type of environment are you in? house in the middle of nowhere? apartment in the city?
How far are you away from the access point? example: 5 feet away in the same room or 30 feet away down the hall and three rooms over?
What types of materials are between you & the AP? example: concrete block walls, drywall, etc.
What kind of other electronic stuff is around? some cordless phones can interfere with wifi
When it disconnects, what happens? Does your OS tell you anything useful?
Are you sure the problem is wifi-related and not your cable modem or DSL?
