Im thinking bout later making a scuplt of cortana and possibly making it into a lamp. I would problly cast it with a transparent blue plastic so that i can put a lamp under it. What im really trying to make is the cortana on top on that pedastal at the end of the game. If you have any ideas about how to do this lemme know thx...

ok so heres what i think would be cool for the hand and grenade lamp...... its a quick drawing

thats an awesome idea lol. idk how someting like that would work. but it sounds like you would have to scultp her, then make a mold kinda like the rubber ones cept instead of rotocasting in it just fill it with clear hardening resin/ blue if you can get it lol. but idk if there are extra steps to make it work better or anything but i was thinking of making a mini master chief statue that way lol.

and u know what else would be a neat lamp? you should make a plasma grenade one:lol:

I'd suggest making a two-part mold and making a fiberglass cast of the front and then back of Cortana, glue them together and sand the seam down smooth. As fiberglass is translucent, it'll allow the light to come through but it wouldn't be so clear that you would see the actual light fixture inside.

There are see-through coloured paints you can find so that she would be blue but the light would still come through. You can decide whether you want to paint some parts of her slightly darker and some lighter, so that the light shows through in some areas.

Say, for example, if you wanted the scrolling text on her body to be more illuminated, paint around that a little darker so the text will be a little more pronounced.

Make the base similar to the holographic pad she stands on, and in that place the actual bulb. Make it a power-saving bulb, as they emit less heat.

Just an idea, anyway...

Let's go one step further with that concept, shall we? Admittedly, a Plasma Grenade on its own as a lamp would be too small. How about this: the Plasma Grenade would definately be the light source, but for the base you have a MJOLNIR hand/forearm holding it up, as if to throw? Kewl, no? ;)

that could possibly be a cool idea. but...could be kinda freaky too... like, the leg lamp from "A Christmas Story." minus the sex appeal.

isnt there a member on this form that has a avi that is a Mark VI helm glowing (used a lamp for under it)
That was a test for his un-resined pep helmet to see how it works.

so couldnt you just just put like a couple of coats of resin to form your "cortana" but your light would look really angular

if your gonna do it you make it like 1-2ft tall and cast it solid because light traveling up from the bottom of the statue wont refract very well if its hollow. it will take alot of plastic. but that would be really cool i think you should try it.

I would make the cortana like 1 ft tall

I'd definately agree. One foot tall or more would be best, I think. Since it's supposed to be a lamp, you can't have it too small.

As for the light refraction, you could do it hollow and just apply a light-refractive coating on the interior surface so that it would illuminate the entire inside of the shell.

I strongly suggest making it hollow-cast as you don't want it too heavy, and will be easier to move around if it wasn't comparable to a cinder block, lol.

Just my opinion on the matter, is all. However you decide to do it, I for one look forward to seeing the end result... :)

You don't have to make it. They're selling a 12" McFarlane Cortana statue with base and transparent body with LEDs underneath.

Well then, I guess that answers that, lol.

Although, is it going to illuminate enough to be considered a lamp?

Because, if not, that's what he's going for; an actual lamp that gives off a whole lot of light.

There will be a large light-up Cortana coming from Kotobukiya later this year:

Alongside the two already-announced Kotobukiya statues was a mockup of the third, Cortana, due later this year. She'll feature a light-up base, making her the perfect night light for the insomniac, living-with-parents thirty-something. Also announced was a fourth Kotobukiya figure, due much later, that will depict two Spartans on a Mongoose. Presumably in a manly, combative pose, and is not just the one riding hanging on lovingly to the one driving.

where is the fun in buying a toy when you can MAKE YOUR OWN! this would be so much more entertaining, it would have a story behind it, and you could put her in any pose you can make? so your gonna go buy a mass produced figure that everyone might have after a few weeks?

i still think making the lamp instead of buying it would be more satisfying but thats me, if you want to buy it go ahead.

and yes a plasma grenade being held by a spartan hand would make an awesome lamp. id put that on my desk

I would much rather make my own then buy one, and as for the hand and grenade that would be sweet to. Especially if it was really battle damaged and dirty.
