countinuity error in fall of reach

What I would like to know is why in halo 2 are the odst helmets different than in Halo 3 odst (Which takes place the same day as the first mission of halo 2) .

It's just for looks, even the chief has changed slightly between the two games (especially less shiny).

while that one is pretty confusing. i actually like the halo 2 odst's better.
