Don't your foot plates get messed up?

I made some foot covers last year and they have been torn up pretty badly, How do you personally prevent it from happening?

they use wood on the bottom part (were u walk on) and fiber glass 2-4 times maybe 5 or they get molded feet like Adam's feet.
