I know that this is not a costume or prop. This is a prom dress that I am working on doing an alteration for a young woman.

THe dress started with a solid back with a zipper from the upper edge down to where the now backless dress ends.
IT was to loose across the young lady's bust, and to tight across her belly and upper hips.
The only thing I could think of doing that would produce the best look, with the least amount of work was to take the upper edges of the sipper area and pull them almost straight down. I then took out the zipper, and a wedge of fabric from both the lower skirt and the bodice top all the way to the sideseam.

I took almost 8 inches out on each side of the old zipper from top to bottom. My hand is actually inside the fabric pouch that I made from moving the waistline.

I blended the new waistline back into the original waistline at the sideseams.

Here is what the new waistline looks like from the side.

Where the strap of the dress meets the top edge I might add a 2 inch wide ribbon so that if the young lady chooses she can pull them and make a bow to add a little more fit to the front of the bodice and make it so that the dress is a bit more secure and less likely to accidentally ( Possible be easily shifted off of) Fall off of her shoulders leaving her with a fashion faux pas.

Great job, I wish I had that skill set. Understanding out dresses like this fit together is beyond my understanding
