(E)ODST build

The original plan for Torg was a MK-VI but I'm switching gears to an ODST. The relative simplicity of the build will allow for a much higher quality result (For my skill set) within my time frame.

Here's my current rough concept for how it's going to look

What material/process are you planning on doing? Pepakura, Foam, or 3D printing?

Far be it from me to criticize you for doing an ODST build with a swap to the EOD helmet, but it seems a bit strange for someone working with explosive devices to be handling them without any hand or arm protection. Someone has to keep those prosthetic manufacturers in business I guess.

It's going to be foam. I already have the chest plate built I just need to post it.

And I get it lol. But this character isn't part of any bomb squad, I just chose the EOD helmet because it looks cool

2 schools of thought come to mind with the no sleeves EOD. First, if I'm defusing something the armor isn't really gonna keep me alive anyways so if I don't wear it and succeed it's not a problem. Second, if I don't succeed it's not my problem anymore.

Forearm plates are one less bit of shrapnel sent at your squad mates.

Honestly, the thighs and forearms are the most annoying parts to wear on my ODST build. Makes the Halo 2 Anniversary ODST so tempting, so I get doing a build that eliminates the forearms.
Funny enough, I'm not doing the thighs either. Mainly because I've just never cared for how they look. I'll probably do Halo 3 Marine thigh plates

Chest plate built. I think it's slightly misassembled and might redo it, but I think it's worth properly finishing it to wear until I can make something nicer.

Then there's my hip plate which came out very rough, but just like my chest plate, I'm going to fully finish it since it looks good enough for now. I'm blaming it mostly on not properly holding the template down. I used to stick my templates on to card stock, but it became so time consuming to do. If anyone has advice it'd be greatly appreciated

Hip plate number 2

It's not perfect but is infinitely better than the first. I used masking tape to hold down the template which was a little annoying, but worked well

I totally forgot to keep this updated so here's some belated work in progress pics. As you can see I decided to go back through and revise the battle damage. it ended up looking way better

The original plan was for the shoulder pads to be independent pieces that flexed with arm movement. While I still think that's a cool idea it ended up being more hassle than it was worth so the three pieces just ended up being glued together

Here's everything (minus the shoulder pads because I forgot to take a picture) with its base coat. It looks ugly now but it really pops once it's hit with some weathering. I used a silver sharpie paint marker for all the gashes. You can really get the paint nice and pooled into the deep areas which gives it a very nice finish that doesn't show up on camera super well

Here's the torso fully painted and rigged up (guest starring my uncomfortably veiny right hand)

I won't go into detail of how I rigged everything because I'm not even sure how I pulled it off. There's better rigging tutorials out there than what you can get from me.

I will say that the shoulder pads have a strap with a velcro tip that leads up and velcros under the shoulder strap of my plate carrier. There's also velcro at the lower end of the shoulder pad that velcros to the patch spots for my BDUs. It takes a little futsing to get it right, but it's way more comfortable and clean looking than trying to put a strap around the bicep.

People that are good with foam amaze me. See you at Torg Trooper!
Likewise! And thank you! I've got to say that this is the first suit that I feel truly proud of. Almost everything about it is coming together so nicely without any time or budget constraints that my prior builds would suffer from. I look forward to this becoming my main, iconic suit

It's been awhile but I should probably update this thread. Here's the "completed" build as of September 28th

As you can see, it's not complete, but definitely presentable. I'm very proud of it, and can't wait to see it to completion.
