I finished a pepakura helmet and im getting ready to strengthen the helmet. I was wondering if you MUST fiberglass the helmet or if you can do a layer of fiberglass resin and then do the rest of the helmet with bondo auto body filler and sand it into shape. I was wondering if anyone has tried strengthening a pep helmet with auto body filler and how well it worked out. Ive worked with auto body filler before but not in this particular scenario (I have NEVER built a replica helmet before). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can do bondo work on a resin hemet if thats what you choose to do, but it will most likely collapse the helmet with pressure with sanding, you will want to harden the helmet before you do any bondo work and actually have it turn out nice, you can use fiberglass cloth or some members are using the rondo method to harden their helmets, which is a mixture of fiberglass resin and bondo, If you read the stickies there is a tutorial on this process, but yes harden the helmet before you do any body work good luck

If you just joined, good luck with your build. However, you need to be patient and try to read the stickies before posting question like this. Your question is a general knowledge in armor building. It shows that you did not take time to learn armor making and read the tutorials.

Additionally, if your profile says who you actually are, you may need to get permission from your parents before handling bondo or fiberglass. The materials you are referring to are toxic. Definitely not good for an 11 year old.

Thank you for you're help. I'm really new to the 405th community and I have never heard of stickies, and sorry for posting questions that could have been answered by some research. I've also been having a hard time editing my profile and I cant find where it says my age but I am WAY older than 11.

*grin*

It is best if you fiberglass the inside for strength (I prefer it to rondo as its stronger) then over the top in bondo etc. There are indeed a wealth of tutorials etc in the stickies in each forum category so its best to take a day and trawl through them one by one. Totally invaluable.

I believe there are also a number of youtube vids etc.

Cheers.
