Hi everyone, I've been a member here since July 2013.

I lurked around here for some time but finally decided to register to show you what I've been up to.

So back in the beginning of june 2013 I decided to start my first spartan armor build going the way of pepakura-fiberglass-body filler. I think the best way to give you an idea of how it's coming along is with lots of pictures. In this thread you will find my work in progress shots as I slowly make my way to completion. I'm trying extremely hard to hold myself to a very high standard. No rough work will make the grade.

So come in and check it out, your support is always welcome as well as any ideas or suggestions you may have.

    COMPLETED:
-Spartan under suit (select pieces of motocross gear)
    -Halo 4 Recon Helmet
    -Halo 4 Mk.VI Torso
    -Halo 4 Mk.VI Boots

    CURRENTLY WORKING ON:
    -Shoulders
    -Hands/Gloves
    -Lower abdomen/ Butt plate
    -Shins
    -Thighs
    -Lower arms

    Materials used:
    Visor stencil:
    http://www.shop.deltaarts.pl/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=403

    Body Fillers:
-Bondo brand filler (for coating the inside of parts)
-Evercoat Everglass with Kevlar (all major shaping of parts - superior to Bondo in every way)

    Epoxy Clay:
    -Apoxy Sculpt

    Paint in order used:
-Rustolem primer (not that happy with how it comes out - needs sanding before further painting)
-Rustolem Metallic paints (undercoat for that bare metal look)
    -krylon clear
    -Rustolem Gloss white
    -Rustolem American Accents Deep Blue
-Testors model master arctic blue metallic (spray can & bottle)
-Testors model master black metallic (bottle)
-Testors model master silver metallic (bottle)
-still deciding on clear top coat but will be a model master paint.

    Edits to thread of note:
9/1/2013 - I broke all the pictures links so I had to fix them and I cleaned up my first post to streamline the display of my project.
9/26/2013 - Moved all pictures to flickr, photobucket was trying to limit my bandwidth so I jumped ship. Flickr is a much better system anyway. I still need to switch over all pictures in the thread to Flickr links, till I do pictures will stay up on photobucket.
3/29/2013 - Finally got around to changing all pics in this thread over to flickr, my photobucket use is discontinued. Did general thread maintenance as well.

Thanks for the complements everyone, I really appreciate the support! So far it's been almost 2 months of daily work (a few hours each day and the entire last 2 weekends) to get to this point. I'm really excited to finally reach paint stage on this and begin the chest/torso armor section. I figure I have this entire next week to hammer out all the little details on the helmet and hopefully will be painting by Saturday.

The tubes you see are you standard black plastic cable wrap stuff, it was all trial and error cutting them to fit correctly but it definitely adds nice detail.

Thanks Cr4zyDav0, good to see ya here. In my hunt for inspiration on this project I turned up your videos on YouTube of your halo 4 recon build, all I can say is excellent work!

Small update; I just started the pep work for the chest armor section after spending last night getting the scaling right! I've been unable to work on the helmet since this past weekend because I'm fixing a friends computer. Once that's out of the way the helmet takes precedence again.

Also pretty good find - I ran out of regular razor blades I use for pep work so I took one of my safety razor blades for my face razor, applied some hot glue to the double edge so as not to slice through my hand and found it cuts card stock extremely well!

    Thanks everyone!

    Ok here's a build update:
So after beginning the torso pep last week I decided that I didn't like the pep file I was using (having found another I really liked). So I trashed the first 1/2 completed torso pep and hammered on my new one all weekend.

Milestone update on the helmet: paint stage has been reached! First coat of gloss black over the primer. The final helmet will be blue with white accents and of course gold tinted visor.

It's not perfect but I think after 2+ months on the helmet alone it's about that time to paint.

EDIT: Better pics, I also plan on doing a wet sand to curb some of the minor imperfections once the black paint hardens.

Thanks madmax. Really, I'd say, the paint stage scares me the most out of everything. Lets hope I can pull it off.

I've not gotten to the paint stage on my armor yet, but I paint cars for a living. The key is patience, treat it as a marathon, not a sprint. give everything plenty of time to dry.

Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to keep you all posted as the paint progresses this week. I definitely need to slow it down for the paint and treat it as a marathon. The base coat of black could have come out much better I think but lesson learned - don't paint at midnight and rush it. So like I said, from here I'm going to do my best to clean up this base coat with sanding before moving forward.

Now are you using the whole MVI armor or just the chest and then kinda mix'n'match the other pieces. Like different forearms, legs, feet, etc; or just the recon and the MVI as a whole?

Your work is impressive!!!! i dont think it's your first build though XDDD anyway i really love how your H4 recon turned out.... im gonna sub and keep track of your build ;)

My plan is to use the mkVI armor with the recon helm, I want to be a spartan II like master chief but without looking exactly like him. So kind of like a spartan II who has received a helmet upgrade or something. The plan is always open to change depending on how I like the look of the parts when I start building them.

Edit: after watching forward unto dawn a few times I noticed that both Kelly and Fred wear different mjolnir armor and they are still spartan IIs, so I suppose each has their own customizations to an extent.

Hey thanks, and yes I swear this is my first build haha. Also the first time in my life I've used fiberglass and bondo. The purchase of a dremel when I started this project was also a huge help.
