Soft Parts Halo 3 Marine black portions

Anyone that has seen the Halo 3 Marine soft parts, or has made aHalo 3 marine uniform, what did you use for the black parts under the armor? It looks almost like a tactical vest with attached shoulder pads. Did you use an actual tac vest, or just use foam for the black parts?

I didn't back the armour pieces with anything special for mine. The only soft parts I really used were black webbing straps and velcro to attach everything, which I thought looked good enough over top of my camo. Attaching the armour to tactical gear could work, or maybe mounting the pieces on some 3mm foam to look like a backing or base article.
