Okay so since Evil FX did an amazing job with his commission by 343i and some Didact Helmets (unrelated) have been popping up on Stony Props and all, I jumped right on the bandwagon. I bought one of these awesome pieces and am working on it for myself. I got it the other day so I haven't made much progress, and this thread will be a little bit drawn out over the next month or so due to purchase shipments.

As of right now everything is cut out and on a side note from the current pictures the uneven/not smooth lines have been fixed. But here's some pictures:

List of Stuff to do:
-Paint
-Add lighting (a few weeks out; shipments am I right!?)
-Add Lenses to the eyes
-Add Padding
-Touch-ups

Also To Do:
As of right now I am looking at making a custom Helmet stand for this helmet. My idea is to have the Forerunner mantle as the base then 3 "floating" Hexagonal pillars atop a clear plastic piece. Pillars may be lit with extra lights if I have them. (probably will) This should look awesome even when not worn.

Okay so since the other day I have painted it in its black base coat, I used Black Satin spray paint; It gives the flat/yet shiney look that I see in a lot of the references I found. I have just finished taping off all of those places that require that look and just put it in for its coat of silver paint. So more to come, here's some taped up shots to wet the appetite:

So the painting is finished as you will see in the pictures. I just got my LED's in the mail, but can't put'em in since my battery packs aren't here and I haven't put that clear epoxy in the gaps yet. So that'll be next along with the eye lenses. But here's some progress:

So once everything is prepped and ready I'll post pictures with the eyes and lights, so look forward to that. Then when the helmets complete I'll move onto making the stand.

Small update for the helmet:
-Black paint
-Onto silver paint
-I got my eye lenses in the mail along with the pads.
-Still waiting on the lights

New idea for the light slot filling I was going to do. I bought this special epoxy for cars (http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9149027/01427/?quantity=1) it supposedly dries "crystal clear" according to car guys and the wrapping. So my idea to try is to fill the slots with the clear epoxy, probably lightly paint orange, and then shine the lights through them. If it works it should look pretty cool. Once everything around the slots is painted I'll lightly sand the paint that got into the slots, re-tape the inside of the helmet so nothing bleeds inside, then tape off the areas directly around the slots on the outside. Then mix the epoxy and coat the gaps. Of course I'll test it first and post my findings.

That should work if you blackout the back where the lights are. That is basically how airplane back lit panels are made. The panel is either clear or somewhat milky epoxy. The LED is either inserted in the epoxy, inside a recessed hole in the back, or mounted to shine on the back. Something black is put on over the back to cover the panel and LED to prevent light from escaping out the back. For a brighter front use more LED's or something reflective for the back cover. The only difference is the back lit panels are painted black in the front. Then the paint is removed or a shallow etching is done for the letters / symbols that will glow. You could also mount the LED's on the edge of the epoxy fill if room permits. A piece of Plexiglas should come close to what the epoxy will look like. If you want to experiment before doing the helmet.

This is how I am planning on doing the Mark V backpack lights in my build. If I ever get to the torso/back piece lol.
