Gunna make another build thread separately for the energy sword that I'm gunna be building. I picked up the sword body from Sean B. and the electronics and source code from Dustin W.

I'm gunna start with the electronics first and then paint the sword once I get those working. Unlike Dustin's, I'm not doing the audio and motion controls yet (to cut on cost for now).

See Dustin's page too for completed pics of his version: http://www.westaby.net/2015/05/energy-sword-2015/

Here's the pics I've taken so far for my electronics build:

So yeah. I'll post more pics as I go along, but looking forward to this kick-ass project!

I'll post a full parts list in a bit.

Alrighty, big update today! Wooh!

The kit came in the mail this week and I couldn't wait to get started on it. So I spent most of today figuring out how I wanted to style my sword and painting it. I decided to do mine a little differently than Sean's and Dustin's swords. I wanted it to look like the energy sword even when it wasn't lit up so I scoured the internet and got this as my base design:

I started by painting the lightning affects. Since I was painting from the inside so the paint doesn't get rubbed off when the sword gets touched, I had to do everything in reverse order. I used the pic I got online to give ideas on the lightning affects and just made it my own.

After that I gave the handle a primer coat and misted the tips of the blades with white.

Then the blades got a light coat of the base blue.

And then some light(er) blue and black accents to give the plasma some depth. The lightning also got some white to give a glowing affect.

And I painted the handle. the mounting holes and led guide panel were mounted into place. The LED's will be attached to the blades and run through to the body tomorrow, but here is where I'm at as of now:

That's all for today!

Alrighty, I got the LED strips installed and made a display stand for the sword just to up the cool factor even more. So here's the pics of today: ('ll try to get some pics of how I have my LED's laid out when I open the sword back up to continue the electrical work)

I also gave the insides of the blades a clear frosted coat to help diffuse the light put off from the LED's

Your paint work is wicked man! Top notch work on finishing this prop!

Oooh. Very nice! I wanted to do this but... I have no idea how durable it is....

It's really solid. The blades aren't flimsy, it's like 1/16th inch thick clear plastic/Plexiglas

I'm going to add some silicon in the blade mount to stiffen that up a bit, but yeah, really high quality kit.

Thanks. I put my time in on youtube watching some videos on lightning/clouds to get some ideas haha.
