A month a or so ago i posted my build for an MA-37 Assault rifle, and recently i reworked some specific features of it, namely i added the mag light to the rifle and reworked the barrel pieces and the ammo counter. the gun is built out of MDF and 1/4 inch plywood , sanded and panted flat black and distressed to look like gun metal. this is technically a Nerf gun mod, although mine does not function. the only thing that will need to be changed to make it function is replace the plywood dowel with pvc pipe for the barrel.

Comment and enjoy you guys!

This is the wall mount i made for it in my room, that gives it the appearance of just kind of floating an inch out from the wall.

here are my progress pictures and explanations for the project;

when building you need to cut a few things off the recon as shown;

after that you use a combination of MDF and quarter inch plywood

0709111007-Copy.jpg

you need to cut the grip piece and screw it into the bottom of the grip and the cut down stock

0709111033-Copy.jpg

you then need to cut the side pieces out of quarter inch and glue/screw them to the side of the gun and stock

0709111032-Copy.jpg

it is neccesarry to shim one or both sides of the stock to keep the box square

0709111049-Copy.jpg

you then cut the back and top pieces of the box out of quarter inch

0709111054-Copy.jpg

0709111318a-Copy.jpg

you then bondo the box to fill in the cracks and add a square piece with a 45 degree angle on both sides

0709111329a-Copy.jpg

then add the dome shaped pieces behind the box.

0709111335-Copy.jpg

drill a hole and glue in a 3/4 dowel or pvc pipe fore the stock brace

0709111544-Copy.jpg

then sand and shape the stock piece, driling a 3/4 hole in it and glueing it onto the pipe. then cut the clip ( i layered quarter inch)

0709111606.jpg

cut the grip mount and the grip, and for the cove piece on the back of the grip i cut a piece out of a ziplock container.

0709111740.jpg

then cut 2 of each of the barrel pieces out of 3/4 mdf and glue them together for the right thickness.

0709111756.jpg

use a stationary sander to shape the barrel pieces

0709111959b.jpg

to achieve the cutout in the front of the gun, i simply cut the whole piece in half a little back from the front of the piece, then took the front piece, and cut the center out of it, then glued it back on. i then cut and glued in the barrel and top pin. if you want your rifle to function, simply drill all the way through the piece and insert a piece of 3/4 pvc pipe for your barrel. align it with the nerf barrel when mounting and your gun will fire.

0709111959a.jpg

i used hot glue to attach the barrel pieces and is icredibly sturdy.

0709112142.jpg

then just sand and paint. (note; i used very thin cardboard to add the details on the stock and the ammo counter.

the ammo counter itself is a cardstock counter with clear plastic in front of it.

note again, these are the progress/tutorial pictures before the modifications, the only serious difference is drilling the hole in the grip for the mag light.
this is my friend AJ with his AR that he built with my help (his functions)
and yes he looks young we are both 16 (i know that you dont usually see many people under like 20 on the forum)

OMFG(Oh My Flying Goats)!!!! Dude, that is EPIC! :D
......Ya know, now that I think about it, I suddenly have this strange urge to go buy some wood and to butcher both of my old Nerf recons.

Yeah scizor112, when i get going on projects like this its an all day thing, and besides some ref. photos all of it was free handed onto the mdf and the plywood.

Dh748, the material used is mdf (medium density fiber board) , its like the spam of the wood world. its heavy, which gives the gun realistic weight, and its soft which makes it easy to sand and shape. all the pieces where cut out on a band saw (but a jigsaw would work) and sanded and formed on a stationary belt sander

That makes me pretty jealous! I would spend all day on my projects if I could, but parents and college say otherwise. Also, what part of Ohio are you from? I'm about an hour away from Cincy.

Thanks man! Though I'm a little hesitant about doing this to my lim. edition red recon, seeing as it was a B-day present from my dad.

Well, I'll scour both houses for all the pieces of the first one, cause I can only find a barrel right now. Though I might buy a new one later for a sniper rifle like SithSlayer78's.
