Help with armored gloves

So I am brand new to making my own armor. And I've heard that the besting to start on would be the handplates, the only problem is I can find any gloves that would have the nice thick heavy duty look to them. So I would be very grateful if someone would tell me of some gloves that would match these descriptions.

I would recommend a good set of black mechanics gloves. Usually they have a leather in sole in the palm that gives you a rugid military look.

I like the textured rubber palms, and the knit topside will be covered by handplates and finger armor.
