Lately I've been trying to ffind out ways to improve my props and i found out the hot glue method is a good way to make a "cast" of the project. I would just like to ask if it really works and if you can post some pictures of your projects when you are done using that method.

And since im already making a post, what is the difference between bondo and spot putty and how do you use them properly.

you use spot putty when and because bondo leaves some little holes and or scratches

i haven't heard of any one making a weapon with hot glue as a casting medium...but i have heard of people using it to make under armor

It's not really a casting method, but a reinforcing method. You can't replace plastic with hotglue.

It's cheap and strong, but I wouldn't call it "durable".

Bondo is a brand name for a cheap body filler. It's a 2-part mix, the filler and the catalyst. The catalyst heats up to make the filler cure. To remove pinholes and scratch, you have to mix it correctly, which most people don't do...

Spot putty is a finition putty with the catalyst already mixed. It is for correcting small pinholes which appeared after you applied primer to your object. Don't work only with spot putty, it is not as strong as Body filler.

Good alternatives for "Bondo" is the Bondo Gold, Rage or any other brand of body fillers. Bondo is pretty low in the ranking of good body fillers ^^.

I have a small and a large high temp glue gun. I use hot glue quite a bit as a filler to save on resin. I would suggest applying a coat or two of resin under it, and then fill it in with hot glue. You have to be patient with it and have a few cans of compressed air handy... turn them upside down and spray short bursts of the liquid on the hot glue it will cool it VERY quickly.

Benefits are its cheap, drawbacks is its not as durable. You can significently increase its durability by using 3-5 layers of drywall tape. Drywall taps is made of fiberglass and 1 large roll will be enough for a lot of armor pieces.
