I’ve set my mind on building a spartan costume, but I’ve run into a roadblock: what do I use for a visor? I’m thinking gold or silver. I am new to this kind of thing and have no idea what I’m doing.

It depends on which helmet you are doing.
There are several vendors on sites like Etsy that sell colored tint material you can use, there is the old stand by of Iridium Motorcycle visors, or you can make a mold and us a material like PTEG to vacuum form or simply heat form a clear visor and then dye/tint/chrome it. But, knowing what helmet and what visor specifically you are looking at will narrow down the best method for you.
