Please advice - how can I make clear polyester resin colorful (but still transparent)?
What dye needed to add to resin - powder or liquid, some special or not?
Thanks

several companies make clear casting resins and offer ranges of mixable pigments, im not sure pf specific brands in your part of the world but, you could try searches for Norski, Rhoda, Wacker (that ones german cant remember how its spelt) maybe smooth on have a distributor near you, all those companies sell clear resins

that seems almost to simple, I've read something wrong haven't i...

Food dye is water based.... resin is not. You can buy dyes for your resin from most plastic companies that supply resin.

Try Smooth-On, Polytek, etc.

You can add regular flour... (the white flour powder you use to make bread etc. out of) it will make the resin go white... but also increase drying time.
I tryed this it worked.

...and then the mice starting nibbling on my armor and before I knew it I was naked.

Thanks for reaching for it Finnish, but I think he's looking for actual additives to put into the resin, not kitchen shortcuts.

Go here:

http://www.smoothon.com/accs.htm

So-Strong™ Color Tints in a non-reactive carrier that are compatible with most Smooth-On urethane rubbers and plastics. Pigments are packed in 2 oz. containers and available colors are Red, Black, Brown, Orange, Yellow, Green, Violet and Blue. All colors come in a So-Strong 8-Pack. Note: Avoid powder pigments or pigments dispersed in oils, resins, polyols or water because they may add moisture to your mix (foaming) or cause cure inhibition of the rubber or plastic product.

Agreed...do I smell a visor, Bevbor?

I had never thought about tinting resin until you mentioned it :) Pretty neat idea really.

You can buy crystal clear casting resin and add a tint. You'd need to make a mold of a visor that allowed for air release (vents) and you'd need to use a pressure pot after mixing the resin to remove air bubbles before pouring.

It's possible, but theres still the mirroring issue. If you don't mind it not being mirrored, this could be a solution for you to make a cast 'dual layer " style visor.

If you need any help with mold desing Bevbor, let me know I can give you some pointers.

hmmm, a tinted clear coat over a vacced part would be a lot simpler, cheaper and easier wouldn't it? Casting a clear visor would require a closed polished aluminium injection mould for a quality piece. slushing or roto casting would be all wobbly like a hundred year old window

Guys, I'm just learning about possibility to do the following:
1. Form gold tinted FLAT polyester sheet
2. Vaccuform it to visor form
3. Cover internal side with some mirroring transparent material or spray or paint
What do you think, is it possible?

as far as i know, there are no vacformable mirror sheet plastics available, or if there are none of my suppliers have heard of it. The problem is while most thermoforming plastics stretch with heat, mirror tint shrinks so yoursheet will split. If you have the money you can get parts irridium coated, or you could by a scientific pump and make your own metalizing chamber with a beer keg and a tungsten boat. Back spraying the part with a clear pearlized transparent yellow would be the easiest method for a home/garage fabricator in my opinion
good luck though :)
