How To Secure A Shoe Into A Pepped Boot?

I'm almost done pepping with the Normal Detail piece by ROBOGENESIS and I need to know how to secure the shoes in those boots?

You don't need to put the shoe in just yet if you only have just finished pepping the boot! If you did, you would get Resin, Fiberglass, Bondo, etc. all over it! It would also be in the way of the Resin, Fiberglass, etc. If you plan on using it as a stand for putting Resin on the outside of the boot, make sure to put a plastic bag around it. Once you're done putting Resin on the outside (and after it had dried) take the shoe out to Resin the inside.

I hope this helps!

Like saber said, fiberglass/bondo/paint your boot first, then insert shoe. For mine I used JB weld, and it's held up like a champ to walking around town for a couple of hours. Just make sure you adhere to the instructions on the packaging and let it dry for a good 24 hours before trying to walk in them.

A)screws

B)bolts

C)epoxy

Well the screw require a screwdriver.

The Bolts require some socket wrenches

and the Eppoxy you mix two chemicals together to form 1........

Just kidding, Im actually trying to figure out how Im gonna attach the plates to the boots Im gonna use. though i am gonna use the high detail pieces. Normal Detail ones look like they wont let your foot bend.

Here you go, everyone. Check this out. It's a good tutorial on the boots:

Screws go up from the bottom into the sole of your shoe/boot, blunt (sand down to make less pointy) the tips of the screws, so they don't poke you. This method often requires you to put the screws in and take them out to get a good fit with the least discomfort.

To use bolts, drill holds through your shoes/boots and the armor piece and simply line up the holes, then slide the bolt through (bolt head should be inside your shoe/boot). Tighten up the nut securely. then sand down the excess threading on the bottom of the bolt (the part sticking out. This method, if done wrong, can misalign the piece to the boot. If done incorrectly enough, can ruin the shoe/boot and the piee of armor.

To use epoxy, (or anyother type of goopy idea you have) use Ithicas tut. http://405th.com/for...showtopic=16507

For anyone who hasn't used screws or bolts for this before, I recommend using the Ithicas tutorial.

Sorry for the poor explination before, I'm usually thinking of these ideas looong before I need them and often they aren't completely thought out.

Enjoy your build. MAKE SUPER ARMOR! :)

I don't plan on using any of the above methods.

Instead, I'm going to put my shoe into the boot and fill the inside with some Great Stuff foam. That I won't have to destroy the shoe or the sole to secure it.

Could you post pictures when you finish please, I've never seen that method used before?

Are you using a 1 piece or 3 piece boot?

"awwww yeeeeeh" my time to shine i have the perfect pictureds for you here you go this is how i have done mine

notic i has done "velcro straps" instead of laces because i think is't tones easier i glued them on with liquid nails and so i have already test ran them and they work perfectly

now this is the inner side of the boot i used a clip to clamp it tighly (hopefully it will not come undone during the fight :p)

and also see those circle's near the bottom that wear the screws go into the rubber i recommend skiny yet long ones

now this is a hinge (spelling?) well anyways it's very useful it is a 25mm butt hinge i use one per boot and 2 will be using 2 for my chest piece

Uh oh! After looking at these pictures, I think I'm going to look like a manga Spartan. My foot armor looks way bigger then that on my boots. Oh well, I like giving the Covenant the boot anyway!

Just an FYI, the Great Stuff will not come off of the shoe... ever... If you want to be able to remove your shoes from the boot, I wouldn't use this method.

I'll have pictures posted after this weekend. But here's information.

I'm using the 2 piece HD boot. The 3 piece would be better, but I don't have time before Dragon*Con to find a suitable boot buckle that I like.

I actually saw this method in the undersuit section. I think BRI started that thread. It's around page 2 of the threads and about 3 or 4 pages into that specific thread. (I'm not that creative)

I'm not worried about the boots I'm using. It's just a set of my old black leather combat boots. But, at least during the fitting of the toe, I may put masking tape over it so the foam won't get stuck to it.

This method will provide a secure fit and, if I ever want to dismantle my armor boot to make a new one, I can remove the leather boot and not have a ruined sole with holes in it.

If it works and people are interested, I may post a tut on this method.

So does mine. However, when you pair it with the greaves, it looks just fine!

it's even better when your foot is size 13 and the boots is basically size 15 now LOL the covies are going to have one sore @55

For my boots, I used two snap buttons near the top of the boot, one on each side.

Gir3892.

I don't think the glue idea on the clamps for the boot is the best idea. By default, the plastic used in these clips refuse to hold onto anything that you try to stick to them. In time, chances are those clamps will pop out clean from the boot.

At least I hope you scuffed them up with sandpaper before gluing them.
