Kid's Size Helmet Pics

Here is a pic of the Helmet my brother is working on for our kids Halloween costume. This started as the "test" helmet pep model, then he glass'd it and bondo'd it. I can't remember what the scale he ended up with but he test fit the pep on his 8 yr old and thought it was good. He still has a little work on the back side, smoothing etc...

It's not perfect like some of the other helms on here but our kids think it looks awesome and that is really all that matters. He is hoping to make mold and pull some parts before the end of the month.

To make the costume easier to move around in - we have been thinking about making the body peices out of foam that we will shape or maybe use a combination of foam and cardboard peices. They get to wear their costumes to school, so that comfort/ability to move around is an important issue. Who wouldn't want to wear a Halo MC suit to school?

Wow that looks great! What did you use to give it that dark gray color? And also, that helmet is definentely on par with some other great helms on the site!

I had to come back in and see what my bro was saying about my work. I figured he would have posted taking all the credit. Anyway like he said it is just a rather quick project I am trying to get finished for Halloween. The helmet will be cast in plastic resin and I hope to finish the back of the helmet this week so I can make a mold this weekend. In the picture he shows the helmet is simply painted black and the flash, ambient light creates the grey color. I did this so I can see what still needs to be done before final paint and molding. I modified the front a bit from H3 version because I am going to make the visor removable using magnets so if the kids get hot they can pop off the face shield and cool off.

Also the body armor will me made using foam like another guy used in a forum I belong to. This guy is great and the advantage is the kids can move freely and damage is almost impossible. I'll try to get some pic's up when I get this done. Ham's Bumblebee

I don't post here too often but I read A LOT from here so keep up the good work. You guys make doing this stuff easier with all the great tutorials.

Did some additional work to the sides and back as well as straighten some of the lines. I painted it flat black then covered it with a light dust of gray so I can see if any final sanding is needed. I think after I give it a good once over, especially in the back, I'll give it a final paint job then make my mold this weekend.

Not many comments but I am finishing the post. Finally finished the helmet and I am ready for molding. Added more details to the front and finished the back. My kids like it and I think it turned out really well. I added some pictures to show the beginning and the end.

Mad props man, it may not be game accurate, but for using the lowest detail pep available, thats awesome work.

It WAS in FS's Hi Def models topic, they acted as a size tester so you can get your scale right without having to build a complicated model.

It's not a stupid question but I will give you a lame answer. I got it from my brother’s friend. It is posted somewhere in the 405th but since I am really new to the forum, I can't tell you where. Told you my answer was lamer than your question. I'll talk to my bro tomorrow and have him post in here where it is.

Radioactive, good to know that was the size tester model. LOL. Like I said this was my first project so for me it was easy to add detail after I glassed the helmet. I am a Picasso of bondo. Not really but it sounds cool. This was intended to be just a learning experience for when I make an adult version for next year. This process takes a long time and I figure it would be better to learn with a kids version than with my adult version. Kids are more forgiving. I plan on making a mold so I can get a few copies for my kids and nephews. For me it's not a bad first attempt and it helps me understand a bit more about symmetry and the entire pep process. Thanks for the comments.

I am currently waiting on the visor. I decided to insert it from the front and hold it in with magnets so I can remove it during Halloween if they get too hot. Should have the visor within the week then I'll post again. Thanks for the positive comments, it means a lot.
