Hello All, I'm building this for my props class. It's an MA5S. My own variation of the MA5B assault rifle. The S would stand for suppressed. May change it to R for recon, haven't decided yet, but at the moment the S will remain as a tentative title.

The design came from a mixture of game models and concept images from Bungie. Don't expect an exact copy of a familiar game model. It's made out of MDF (Medium Density Fiber-board) I'll paint it in this form, as that's all the time I have. But after this quarter, I intend to disassemble it, mold it, then cast it.

It's not at all done yet, so please critique gently, lol. I still have a lot of work to do. The under-slung grip needs to be fabricated, the flashlight needs to be fastened on the front, and some bondo work is required to fill in some unsightly areas. There will also be a rail system on the top for a red-dot scope. The rail is completed, but I just need to attach it to the cowling on the top. The magazine also comes out.

I'm going to post more images, but for the time being this is it. Tell me what you think.

This is the final project For My Class. The finish is a bit wonky and the paint job was rushed as this is due tomorrow, but After I present it, I intend to take it back apart and make a fiberglass mold. I also have a few shots with a red-dot mounted to the fully functional rail on top of the cowling.

Now for some Process Pics.

This is the Large Jet Mill I used for the vent holes and the precise hollowed out portions.

The UNSC insignia was painted free-hand and it was a huge pain in the -blam!-

After all was said and done, there are a lot of things that need work, but again this was just for a quarter-long class, and I intend to disassemble it and mold the components in fiberglass and refine it.

Looking good so far. Like all the vent holes. It's a nice touch. How heavy is it? I'm not too familiar with fiber board.

Can't wait to see how this progresses.

It's got some weight to it to be sure, lol. MDF is more dense than wood, but I milled out the center, so a good portion of it is hollow. It's surprisingly well balanced though. I'll probably be putting some pics of how I got to this point later this week, and of course by then it'll probably be painted, so check back.

First off, let me start off by saying Welcome to the 405th!

Now, that rifle is looking VERY awesome!

Can't wait to see more progress pics, bro!

Thanks guys I appreciate it. To answer your questions though, I used a Large jet milling machine. It's got to be one of my favorite tools in our shop.
