Marcus Fenix Armor (Progress Thread) Styrene Armor Intro

I'm not sure where this thread belongs since it involves an armor construction method that isn't paper or cardboard, nor molded--I make my armor using craft foam of various thicknesses coated with thin styrene plastic.

I have done some exprimenting with Pepakura--I made a Master Chief paper helmet at one point and tried downloading GOW Pepakura files to make Marcus' armor, but I found it way too complicated. (I might scan and post files of all of the plates making up Marcus' armor if there's enough interest in my doing so...)

I've seen you around on a few other sites glad you decided to stop in, no doubt your methods will be a great addition.

I posted a question a few days ago about styrene, but no one answered, and I was just about to go hunt you down to ask you. What are your thoughts on styrene forms without foam backing? I want to make a hollow transparent structure, it won't be load bearing so It just has to stand up to maybe a few bumps into people at the cons. Or if you have another idea I'd Really appreciate the advice.

You can make your form stronger by laminating two or more layers of styrene together (Or hotgluing a layer of tagboard underneath the styrene.) That's a good way to make blades more durable and less liable to warp or get bent out of shape.

I have to go out of town tomorrow to pick up some more plastic. I should have plenty to sell when I get back, if anyone is interested...
