Alright guys, the first part of a running tutorial:
Working on GARLAND's H1 Marine Helm
Step 1. Gather your Resources
For this build, you will need:
[attachment=14841:0203100025.jpg] [attachment=14842:0203100026.jpg]
-110 lbs card stock
-scotch tape
-aluminum sheet (apx. as thick as 2 sheets of card stock) bought my 4 x 2 sheet at Home Depot for $8
-rivet tool, like this one:
https://www.hardwareworld.com/Heavy-Duty-Rivet-Tool-pIRUBE9.aspx
-pop-rivets, with as small a grip range as possible. i got 100 1/4" ones from H.D. for $7
-two pairs of pliers, needle- and flat-nosed (RECOMMEND LockJaw pliers, or you'll need someone else to help with the riveting stage)
-a Sharpie or Dry-Erase Marker
-an electric drill w/ a 1/8" bit
-metal shears (i found that a sharp enough gardening shear worked better than a large metal shear)
-GLOVES AND A DUST MASK! SAFETY FIRST, PEOPLE!
-and a whole lot of patience...
Step 2. Do the Pep work!
Scale your helm to your head and set your flaps to a larger size (i did 10 mm). configure the parts so that you have as FEW PARTS AS POSSIBLE. Also, avoid placing any solid faces over flaps, you want as much free flap space as possible.

When you are satisfied, print out and assemble the helm with Scotch tape (you want to be able to take it apart!). Make sure it fits with a comfortable amount of room inside.
REMEMBER: Metal is less forgiving than paper, so if you have ANY doubts about the size, do the Pep again. It REALLY sucks to get the final product and have it not fit you...
Step 3: Coming Soon!
:EDIT: Monday, Feb 15
Sorry for the long wait! We got 3 ft of snow up here, shut everything down, so i wasn't able to get to Home Depot til today. Will have next part up later today.
