we should have a day were every one gets on at one time to see if we can beat the world record of having 70% of the users logged in at one time.

Reasons Why

1.) It would be fun

2.)It would give the website some advertising

3.)We could all be in the book of world records

4.)Why shouldn't we try it???

We could send every user a message to log in at some date at some time-we would of course have to calculate the diferance in time...

I think this would be really cool..

I think he means for like 3k or 4k to be on at the same time, that kind of record, but like I said "too bad their all spam bots"

Also there would be a huge bandwidth problem, it's likely that having huge amounts of people on the site at the same time would shut down the server temporarily.

For anyone who's ever been here for a site shutdown, it usually says something about exceeding the bandwidth limit...

so, for that reason alone it's probably not a good idea to try this.

We would not touch any records, even if we could do this. The server would be a pile of slag long before we even formed the idea to catch sight of the amount of traffic some websites have at 4AM on a Monday night in September. Example.

Lets not. Go surf digg for a bit and 3 out of four websites are always down because of this very thing.

With average amounts of people on, it uses bandwith already, more than average, this site sometimes shuts down for 10-30 minutes.

omg please don't do such a competition. The poor servers! And if this site has Traffic Limitations per Day it could also be an expensive thing for Adam. :cautious:

Due to my job I have quite many to do with data processing centers and the funny thing about this is, that you always see if anyone of the clients URLs with just one Database Server was mentioned in TV. It takes about 2-5 Minutes, then the machine is down and MySQL and Apache Services say goodbye. And the biggest problem then is: You can reboot the machine, but everyone who could not get on the page tries it again. The machine will stop working directly after the HTTPD / MYSQL Service is back online... so it really takes a long time to bring back the Website to life. Its similar to DoS Attacks with the difference that those many requests are caused by end-users..... o_O

So I really don't think this is a good idea if you love this site. ;)

Oh and btw: You can't get on the Guinnes Book with this if one single site doesn't have many many servers which can handle the Database operations for such an user Storm. Mega-Big-Pages like ebay, youtube or google have many servers for that and they have more users online 24/7 I guess. :D
