Hey there everyone !

I'm going to build my Hayabusa Armour. Iv started the helmet and have only gotten it cut out and scored. Tomorrow Im going to start gluing it. Id like to know though, do you guys think using a hot glue gun will hurt the paper at all, like making the helmet warp or make it not look so " sharp ". I don't Know if I'm just being too cautious about, I have spent about 3 days trying to cut everything perfect, and well thats how each piece, I don't wan't too have too start over again. hahah. Anywas I will Be posting you guys pictures on my progress in this project. :)

If you're worried about the glue gun hurting the quality, why don't you make a separate small piece and try it out? From what I read there are a lot of people on the forum using glue guns for pepakura, but I'm guessing each brand is a bit different, so testing yours would be the best thing to do IMO.

Thanks for your Insight, I have made other Helmets ( each two big or too small ) And I used My glue gun. I found it worked for the most part, Made them a little bumpy in place but nothing bondo will not fix. I am just scared because this is a HD Helm and I have put a lot of work in to it already and I would rather not have to start over. hahah. But Im glad you answerd a question of mine!.

Thanks

Oh one more note, sorry for the bad pictures guys. Its late at night and I had to use my flash, which stinks and you can tell.

It'll be hot pinching the tabs together and I'm gonna take a guess and say only put a very tiny bit cause if it spills out from under the tabs it's going right on your finger maybe where some thick(ish) gloves that still let you have dexterity? Or maybe I'm just being a panzy :pI use Elmer's school glue I like it cause if I put something on crooked I have a little time to adjust it and it's held great for all three ODST shin pieces I've done. It's personal preference good luck ^^

Hey !

thank you for looking out for my well being, but I know all to well what it feels like when the glue comes out after pinching the tabs. I had my fingers all blisterd up after making my first helmet, I had to stop for about a week so my fingers could get better haha. But sadly I flicked that helmet out becaus it had warped after fiberglassing. It wasnt to bad nothing you would notice but I just didn't like knowing I messed up, I wanted it to be perfect( happens when your a perfectionist like myself) So all my hard work(and pain) went down the drain. Thats why I am going very slow and making sure everything is perfect, so that my work dosnt have to be flicked away again!

Thank you

nope i dont think so

but im my experience of using hot glue for every peice of armour iv made, it dosent warp or defect the armour, and if you were to glue a edge on wrong you can always heat up the glue and fix the problem, same with globs of hotglue comming out of the sides when your putting it together, so really i find it the best glue to use on thease types of projects (but that is just my opinion).

Best of luck

Perfectionism is both a curse and a blessing.

I doubt that you would get warned for multiposting if you are replying to people's comments. As long as your posts do not directly follow each other you should be safe, so if two or more people comment, use the multiquote button and reply to them all using one post. If you still feel uncertain and don't want to risk it, you could always PM people.

Also, keep in mind that it is not considered against the rules if your posts are a couple of days apart and you have progress to show.

Alright everyone, I have a question.

I live in newfoundland ( CANADA ) And just today we have gotten 40 cm Of snow..and well its soooooooooooooooo cold out. Meaning I won't be able to resin or fiberglass my helm tell around may-ish ( Thats when the snow starts to melt). Anyways my question to you guys is..

If I resin My helmet, Then sat in my shed with a hair dryer agents the resined helmet. Do you think it would dry or would the fumes like explode. Im not joking guys this is a very serious question. If it was too work I would so go out and do it. hahaha.

Thanks

lol yay canada Woot

but ya resin will not catch con fire unless it is exposed to an open flame, i used a hair dryer to dry the resin on mine, and as for the fact if it will dry or not all depends on the actuall temperature in the shed, you could always just add more hardener to the salution, but that dosent always work, if the temp is really low

Just adding hardener will only go so-far.

This is what i did when i resined in the winter:

First, try to make the temp in your shed as warm as possible.

next when you get ready to resin, try to have the resin and object you are applying the resin onto, stored in a heated area (overnight if possible)

then when you mix it and apply it try to do it as fast as you can while still being thorough.

then once it is applied, quickly put it onto a sealed container like this

this will help contain the fumes from the resin, it is also good to put the container in a separate room like this

It should have a door that goes outside.

it is good to place a heater in this room to help keep it warm.

And just watch it. every hour or two take the tub outside and vent the fumes.

if you can smell the resin when you walk onto the room your container is not sealed THIS IS BAD!

in that case try putting the tub into a 55Gal trash bag and seal it tight.

anyway that is what i did, just be careful, read all the cautions.

To the mods: if you guys think this is a bad idea just tell me and i will edit this post.

im still working on mine attempted helmet twice one messed up on and secound to small as i thought first was too large gonna attempt another helm soon and AceHigh am i right in thinking ur thingy (forgot bloody name) under post is from avatar ?

Hey, weird question.

Which Hayabusa are you making?

Thinking of making one so i can trade out helmets for different setups, but want to have some input on things.

Like how vrogys marine pep files have backwards folds.

nice helmet so far,and your pictures work fine for me too. as for resining, you did a pretty good job pepping so i just wouldn't risk it, but if you still want to resin, id suggest making a curing box, theres instructions on here somewhere, if i find them ill post them

J0ker11,

Good idea but I think im going to wait for it to warm up, Ill finish peping the rest of the armour and resin/fiberglass/bondo/paint during the summer. Only becaue a curing box would scare the crap out of me, I would be watching it the hole time making sure it wasnt on fire. Lol
