My Weekend...

So, in case anyone hadn't noticed, I wasn't on here at all over the weekend. Which was good in a way, as that meant I was involved with other things in my life. But... I have to admit I was starting to go through a little withdrawal, lol. Was kinda wondering just what was going on with everyone here (yes, I was thinking of you guys and gals).

Anyway, my weekend started off great. Saw an old high school buddy of mine that I hadn't seen in quite some time (hung out with him, his new gf, and a bunch of other friends from the ol' high school group all day Saturday). It was good to catch up with him; seems he's doing pretty well for himself.

Then, Sunday I went to lunch with my Nana (grandmother). Though we usually talk on the phone every week (she's said to me numerous times how she looks forward to our chats, and really appreciates that I keep in touch with her regularly; my brother doesn't), it's nice to see each other when we can. Which is maybe about once a month.

After that, I went up to a friend's cottage for the first time this year (he just opened it up last weekend after a long, cold winter).

There were supposed to be about ten of us going up, but turned out only six were actually able to go; last minute cancellations and what not. Still, it was fun (smaller, tight-knit groups often make for better conversation). I'd even invited a friend of mine that was new to the group.

By nature she's a very quiet person -- though not with me; every time we talk on the phone or hang out we're never short on conversation, lol -- she really got into it. I think it kinda helps these people are her age and had interesting/thought-provoking topics to talk about.

We got up there around 5:00PM (it's an hour or so drive outside of Ottawa), and ended up not heading back home until about 10:00PM. By the time I got home, it was a little after 11:00PM.

That's when an interesting, and very exciting, development took place.

See, my friend (her name's Melanie, or Mel for short) came back at me with an answer to something I'd asked her last weekend when we were doing a movie marathon over at my place.

Near the end of that evening last weekend, I admitted to her how I felt (this is after about a month and a half of us hanging out regularly, after she'd contacted me out of the blue after a two-year absence), and that I'd felt this way about her for as long as we'd known one another (about ten years).

I'd wanted to act on it sooner, but unbelievably over the last ten years the circumstances were just never right; either she was with someone, or I was.

As we're both single at this point (we both had relationships that ended late last year), I finally thought there might be an opportunity there, and so decided to take a chance and tell her how I felt. At the time, of course, she found it all a little overwhelming, and so said she had to think on it a bit.

I agreed, given all that I said was a lot to take in, so I left it at that and didn't push the issue.

Well, as she was dropping me off at home last night, just before I got out of the car she told me she'd thought about it and come to a decision. My heart seemed to stop for a moment as I waited for her response, and she said... yes! The only thing she asked for was that we take things slow (which I can completely understand and have no problem with whatsoever).

We'll just keep up with things as we have been, and go from there.

A somewhat awkward moment ensued then, as I found myself sitting there wondering if I should just wish her goodnight and get out of the car, or try to lean in and kiss her, lol. I even told her I was a little nervous (truth be told, in all the relationships I've been in I've never really been nervous about anything; I think it's because it's her this time around, and she's different from the rest).

After a few more minutes of me sitting in the car, uncertain of what to do, I finally thought to myself "To hell with it" and moved in. Though the initial approach to it was kinda awkward, luckily the kiss itself wasn't (though I am a little out of practice), lol. At that, I told her I'd call her later this week (as I've done for the last month and a half) and we'd make plans for the coming weekend.

I wished her goodnight, then went up to my apartment. I slept amazingly well, considering the fact I had that whole episode running through my head over and over again, lol.

All in all, I had a great weekend. It started off great, and ended on a great note. Just wanted to share my experience with my good friends here (you know who you are).

I guess this wasn't such a "short" recap after all:lol:

P.S.: Sorry I didn't get anything more done on the SPNKr schematics, Lee. I'll be working on those over lunch today.

Well, yeah... it was kinda important. Only been trying to hook up with her for a decade, lol. It's a great feeling to finally get that chance.

Persistence and perseverance works wonders, heh.

I don't know if the last month and a half of outings could be considered "dates", but they may as well have been considering my intentions

Obviously, I'm all smiles today, lol.

Great news on the baby monitor, btw! You'd waited long enough, yeesh. I'm looking forward to seeing you put that awesome working SR scope together (will check out your WiP thread later), my friend ;)

Congrats dude :D , good to see someone had a good weekend.

Just last night (the end of my weekend) on my way to work I was pulled over and given a ticket for my high beams being on.

That and to add insult to injury...my car wouldn't start so the officer had to give me a ride in the back of his patrol car to work. Great way to show up to work, in the back of a police car  .

All in all I don't mind, I'm not one to hold something against someone especially when it's my fault.

He was cool about it and I apologized for him having to give me a ride.

It was actually a good weekend, I got to see what the back of a cop car was like (without needing to get arrested) and it was my first time to get pulled over so I learned it wasn't as freaky as I always dreaded  .

BTW: Cop cars are solid plastic all around in the back and they have seatbelts back there, surprisingly enough I didn't expect seatbelts .

Sorry if I'm thread jacking.

Thanks! I hope so, too.

Actually, to be perfectly honest I'm not all that worried things won't work out between us. Number one, we've been friends for ten years, so we know each other well enough. She and I both agree a good friendship is an essential basis for a romantic relationship.

Number two, we get along very well, and as I mentioned earlier we're never short on things to talk about. Something else we agree on; strong, steady communication is a necessary part to a successful, meaningful relationship.

I mean, she's admitted to me before there are things she's comfortable telling me that she would never even tell her best friend. So, that just goes to show how much she's at ease with me around.

Number three, we've got a good deal of things in common and always have fun spending time together, no matter what it is we're doing. Whether it's watching old B&W movies starring the likes of Judy Garland, Gene Kelly or Frank Sinatra, or clothes shopping in the mall after we've had dinner, it's always fun.

I can safely say these are the sort of things I could never really do with anyone else (no one would be interested), and if I tried probably wouldn't have as much fun doing with them.

On top of that, though she doesn't really know HALO or anything about it, she's been extremely kind in listening to me ramble on about the projects I'm working on with Lee, and whatever else has been going on here lately. I've told her I don't know how many times how appreciative I am of her taking some interest in what I do in this hobby.

It's nice to have that for a change. To have someone be willing to listen about one of my main interests (never had that before, believe it or not) is a big plus for me, and has definately earned her some brownie points in my books.

The list goes on and on, but... the gist of it being we "click" pretty well. Always have. So, I don't think there's any real cause for concern there. Just going to take our time with it and build on what's already there :)

<--- Sweet! 1,701 posts! For those who don't know, it's a Star Trek reference, lol.

TOS, or NG? :p

Sounds like you two are on the right track.

Well, either one. Works both ways  heh

And yeah, I think we're already on the "right track" with this. Just taking it to the next level, now.

Like I said earlier, I've only been waiting for this moment/opportunity for a decade (I can be a very patient guy, for the right woman). If that fact alone didn't prove to her just how I feel, then I don't know what would've, lol :D

Congrats man, you have a huge amount of patience ( Whether it's a woman that you've liked for a decade, or a helmet that has lttle to not great detail. ) :p

And I think you asked how are weekends went, the biggest news is that I might be able to sale a oil painting that I did last Thursday for Homeschool group. :D

Lee, you might be getting some buisness soon! Your M6G is so awesome!

And also I have been working on a Mk. V Mjolnir Helmet ( Halo 3 Detail. ) And it's alomost done being pepped. :D

But your news is the biggest and the best, once again Congrats!

:EDIT: lol. Star Trek reference. TOS was the best.

BOLD # 1: Well thanks, dude. I've always been known for being a patient person (much more so than everyone I know), but I think the amount of patience I demonstrated in this case easily surpasses everything else, lol.

That's not to say I haven't had my fair share of other relationships over the last ten years, but admittedly this was one I'd always hoped I would get the chance to have, ever since I first met her so many years ago.

As for the helmet, well... anyone who's done anything in this hobby knows it takes a good deal of patience to do anything worthwhile, if we want our builds to meet a certain standard. It's not unlike a lot of other scratch-build projects I've done in the past, having to put in all the details by hand.

BOLD # 2: Thanks again! :D

And yes, I think the "Was kinda wondering just what was going on with everyone here (yes, I was thinking of you guys and gals)" comment at the beginning of my first post pretty much asked that. Glad to hear you're almost done pepping your helmet. If you haven't done so already, I look forward to seeing a WiP thread on it.

I too really liked TOS. I mean, hey... it's what started the franchise, after all. For the time period it was produced it was amazingly well done, given the limitations they had to work with technologically. It's amazing the sort of found, everyday items that were used to make some of the props.

Of course, I was born just a few years before TNG went on the air, and as that was the first Star Trek series I was introduced to and grew up with, I've kinda always had a soft spot for that one.

P.S.: It's kewl to see a few other Trekkies (and yes, I use the old term; "Trekkers" just sounds weird) lurking around here, btw.

In some ways I think the new movie is not gonna do TOS justice. ( The new Enterprise looks too pansy to me. )

Though not cannon to what we know Star Trek to be, personally I think the new design for the Enterprise looks pretty kewl. Can't say the same for the props, though (clearly, Paramount designed those to easily be made into mass-produced toys). I mean, c'mon... a chrome-plated Hand Phaser? Ugh.

I also don't like how almost blindingly-bright they've made the sets. Reminds me of "Space 2001: An Odyssey" more than anything else.

But don't forget, considering how the franchise has kinda dwindled in recent years -- I think it was ST:ENT that kinda killed the whole thing (only four seasons; just one more than TOS) -- the studio is most likely trying to appeal to a new generation/audience not familiar with the franchise, in order to help make it popular again and bolster revenues.

That requires a few changes to be made to everything to make it look more kewl and modern.

You have to try and look at it, understand it, from a commercial perspective. Because, that's primarily how the big-wigs at Paramount are (the Star Trek franchise has always been a huge "cash cow" for them). And though all of us more old-fashioned, stoic Trekkies don't necessarily have to like that, we do have to accept it.

I for one am going to see it when it comes out on May 8th. You know, just to see what it's like.

EDIT: Could we get anymore off-topic here? :p lol

I understand what you're saying and I agree, but anyway back on topic ( Finally. :p ) good luck to the both of you.

Yeah, back on topic, lol... thanks

<--- Hey, another Star Trek reference. 1,710. The NCC designation for the U.S.S. Constellation (TOS-era Constitution-class starship) IIRC. Okay... I know I'm not helping, so I'll stay away from the off-topic-ness now, lol.

lol seeing as you mentioned Ottawa, I had alright weekend myself, My sister's going to algonquin in the fall so we went up and checked it out, Was pretty cool. On the other hand, I myself had a friend I looked at a lot in the same way havn't seen or talked to her in a while, so knowing what it's like first hand I'm really happy for you man, and wish you two the best in the time ahead.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to a lot of "time ahead" for the two of us, so long as I play my cards right ;)

I KNEW THIS WAS COMING! :D :D :D :D

Not long after I joined and you and I started talking regularly SII you mentioned in the SPNKr thread that you got nothing done due to catching up with an old female friend. From that point on I've been watching and you use "lol" so often these days! I knew something was going down you sly dog you!

Congratulations man! I'll have to tell you one day about how Linda and I got together. It involves a six pack of beer, a pizza, and me explaining scene by scene how Conan the Barbarian is a fantastic and important piece of film. :p

* :D excited happy hugs for everybody :D *

BOLD # 1: LMAO! It was that obvious, huh? Well, I can be a little transparent at times, lol. Truth be told, that was my intention right from the start, when she got in touch with me again almost two months ago. I just wanted to work into it slowly and give her some time to get used to us hanging out together regularly, before telling how I'd always felt about her.

She apparently even had some inkling there might be something there, since as she put it, I called back. Even so, when I did finally admit this to her, it came as a (albeit pleasant) surprise, and she needed to think about it a bit. She's even told me that she has, on occasion, thought about the same thing over the last ten years. But again, the circumstances were just never right.

Like I said before, persistence and perserverance works wonders, heh.

BOLD # 2: Sounds classic, buddy! You'll definately have to fill me in on the details sometime. I imagine it would make for a very interesting (and probably amusing) story.

And thanks! :D

So, another weekend has come and gone... a very busy one too, lol.

As some of the members here know (you know who you are ;) ), all of last week I was involved in a theatre production in my off-hours after work. Doing 8:30-4:30 here, then going down to the community centre at a park/beach in the area to help ASM (Assistant Stage Manage) the play, usually not getting home until sometime around 11:00PM.

Once I was in the door, there was just enough time to hop in the shower, change and flop into bed. And then start the process all over again the next day, lol.

Now that that's done (final performance was on Sunday afternoon), I think I'll have more time to myself to get back to some of the things I've been working on (SPNKr schematics).

Anyway, my weekend played out like this: Saturday, did laundry, cleaned up the apartment (one of the benefits of having a matchbox-sized apartment is that it takes almost no time at all to clean, lol) then headed down to help out with the production in the late afternoon. That was pretty much it for that day.

Oh, well... I did manage to go out for a couple drinks with the cast after the show. Which was kewl, just sitting around and chatting it up. Some good conversation, and good laughs. We didn't keep it too late, though.

Sunday, my gf came to pick me up before noon (she was coming to see the final performance that day), but as we got down there about an hour early we decided to walk around the pier and beachline for a bit and talked. Which, as I've said before we're never short on conversation, lol.

The doors to the community centre opened up at around 12:30, we went in and got her ticket, then I went to work on setting up the stage for the production. All the while, she was just sitting in front of the stage watching me work, lol.

After the show, the crew and (thank gawd) most of the cast helped with the take-down. Props and costumes were gathered up and we figured just what was going with who, then the set itself was brought down. This must be a guy thing, because I had a helluva lot of fun going at it with the power tools and using a hammer to knock some of the pieces off, lol.

All of which took just over an hour to do. I think it really helped we had so many pairs of hands to do the work. My gf even helped out with some of it, which was pretty kewl (never had anyone take an interest in that sort of thing before).

The producer had taken the liberty of getting dinner for everyone who helped with the take-down, but I was sore and tired, and all I could think about at that point was getting some alone time with the gf, so once we were done with everything we decided to say our goodbyes and jet.

We then went back to my place and spent a nice, quiet evening stretched out on the couch together, watching a couple old B&W Frank Sinatra flicks. Can't think of a better way to spend the evening.

Those both ended by 10:00, but we actually didn't get up off the couch until about 12:30 in the morning. We were too comfy, lol.

All in all, it was a great weekend. I don't know why, but I felt compelled to again share my experience with some of the membership here. Who knows, maybe I'll make regular updates to this thread. Kinda like an online journal or something :D lol

EDIT: To top it off, this week's already off to a good start. Got a text from a buddy of mine inviting me to a barbeque (first barbeque of the season! WOOT!) over at his place after work yesterday. Seems like my social calendar's already filling up for this week, heh.

Good to hear that your weekend came together (and apart lol) alright, and that everythings going well. I must admit it felt a bit odd not seeing you on the forums over the weekend. I mean there was no "Lee builds using that" or "I'm drawing this" all weekend, it was great! :p

Just kidding mate. It's good to hear that everything's going well for ya. ;)
