So, in case anyone hadn't noticed, I wasn't on here at all over the weekend. Which was good in a way, as that meant I was involved with other things in my life. But... I have to admit I was starting to go through a little withdrawal, lol. Was kinda wondering just what was going on with everyone here (yes, I was thinking of you guys and gals).
Anyway, my weekend started off great. Saw an old high school buddy of mine that I hadn't seen in quite some time (hung out with him, his new gf, and a bunch of other friends from the ol' high school group all day Saturday). It was good to catch up with him; seems he's doing pretty well for himself.
Then, Sunday I went to lunch with my Nana (grandmother). Though we usually talk on the phone every week (she's said to me numerous times how she looks forward to our chats, and really appreciates that I keep in touch with her regularly; my brother doesn't), it's nice to see each other when we can. Which is maybe about once a month.
After that, I went up to a friend's cottage for the first time this year (he just opened it up last weekend after a long, cold winter).
There were supposed to be about ten of us going up, but turned out only six were actually able to go; last minute cancellations and what not. Still, it was fun (smaller, tight-knit groups often make for better conversation). I'd even invited a friend of mine that was new to the group.
By nature she's a very quiet person -- though not with me; every time we talk on the phone or hang out we're never short on conversation, lol -- she really got into it. I think it kinda helps these people are her age and had interesting/thought-provoking topics to talk about.
We got up there around 5:00PM (it's an hour or so drive outside of Ottawa), and ended up not heading back home until about 10:00PM. By the time I got home, it was a little after 11:00PM.
That's when an interesting, and very exciting, development took place.
See, my friend (her name's Melanie, or Mel for short) came back at me with an answer to something I'd asked her last weekend when we were doing a movie marathon over at my place.
Near the end of that evening last weekend, I admitted to her how I felt (this is after about a month and a half of us hanging out regularly, after she'd contacted me out of the blue after a two-year absence), and that I'd felt this way about her for as long as we'd known one another (about ten years).
I'd wanted to act on it sooner, but unbelievably over the last ten years the circumstances were just never right; either she was with someone, or I was.
As we're both single at this point (we both had relationships that ended late last year), I finally thought there might be an opportunity there, and so decided to take a chance and tell her how I felt. At the time, of course, she found it all a little overwhelming, and so said she had to think on it a bit.
I agreed, given all that I said was a lot to take in, so I left it at that and didn't push the issue.
Well, as she was dropping me off at home last night, just before I got out of the car she told me she'd thought about it and come to a decision. My heart seemed to stop for a moment as I waited for her response, and she said... yes! The only thing she asked for was that we take things slow (which I can completely understand and have no problem with whatsoever).
We'll just keep up with things as we have been, and go from there.
A somewhat awkward moment ensued then, as I found myself sitting there wondering if I should just wish her goodnight and get out of the car, or try to lean in and kiss her, lol. I even told her I was a little nervous (truth be told, in all the relationships I've been in I've never really been nervous about anything; I think it's because it's her this time around, and she's different from the rest).
After a few more minutes of me sitting in the car, uncertain of what to do, I finally thought to myself "To hell with it" and moved in. Though the initial approach to it was kinda awkward, luckily the kiss itself wasn't (though I am a little out of practice), lol. At that, I told her I'd call her later this week (as I've done for the last month and a half) and we'd make plans for the coming weekend.
I wished her goodnight, then went up to my apartment. I slept amazingly well, considering the fact I had that whole episode running through my head over and over again, lol.
All in all, I had a great weekend. It started off great, and ended on a great note. Just wanted to share my experience with my good friends here (you know who you are).
I guess this wasn't such a "short" recap after all
P.S.: Sorry I didn't get anything more done on the SPNKr schematics, Lee. I'll be working on those over lunch today.
