Hey, just got my hands on 10 of these today. They're not even in circulation yet, but I have a friend at the local bank who traded me 10 right out of the wrapper from the mint. :p They're really quite nice. Sorry for the crap pics, my camera sucks.

AFAIK the only two variants are James Monroe and Thomas Jefferson.

Coins look weird without the Queens head on them.

Imperialism, nom nom..

Here in Florida we've got dozens of vending machines along the interstates which take golden dollars- I think they were implemented when the Sacagawea dollars came out.

and then it never took off cause everyone hoarded them thinking they'd be worth something someday haha

bleh, I like bills better. My friend always pays me back when he owes me with 2$ bills... With inflation the way it is, I actually find them really usefull, wish they would circulate more.

In smaller areas, like where I live, I don't see the Gold Dollar coins much at all. I think they are used much more in larger cities as my brother had some when I went to NYC with him, and he says he uses them all the time in Chicago. Makes sense though in places where not everyone has that many single dollars on them to carry a few of those coins. I happen to carry quite of few $1 bills so carry the coins would be rather inconvenient, I think anyway. Just all a matter of where you live, I believe.

They're doing them for every president through Ronald Reagan in order. It;s just like the State Quarter Series that's just coming to an end.
