Well last year I made my first cosplay/armor/prop. But I got sick of it pretty fast during the con by the build quality of it. So I made another one with no nerf products in it.
Started the Rifle with scrap maple which was left over from making some cabinets.
The receiver was formed using a table saw to cut the proper angles along the lengths of the wood.
After everything is glued together, I got to work with the chisel and dremel to make the groove in the top and bottom of the receiver, for the barrel and bolt.
Test fitting the barrel to make sure the groove is large enough
Made the stock and pistol grip using layers what I assume was poplar, or maybe beechwood. Not really sure, not going to ask questions on free hardwood. Also a picture of one of the 5 pieces of plastic on the rifle, a small barrel shroud that connects to the carry handle pin.
The stock was carved out as was the underside of the reciever to fit a piece of maple. The basic form of the rifle is coming together.
The stock and grip stained and lacquered, the barrel was smoothed out so the grain of the dowel wouldn't show through. Found that using the paint itself helped a great deal with hiding the grain if sprayed on thin and it was sanded while still not completely dried. The receiver was also puttied to smooth it.
