So I made a guide for dress uniforms, because armor is sometimes hell to make.

IF I get the chance, I'll post pictures of the ODST uniform I cobbled together for SXSW Gaming.

So, in general, there's a bunch of different dress uniforms you could go to. This guide will cover the ODST one, which looks a hell of a lot like the USMC Dress Blues.

The benifit is it's easy to find. The detriment: You could get yelled at for "sotlen valor" and it's not cheap.

It looks like this:

So if you're looking for a set of ODST Dress Blues, and don't mind sinking a few hundred bucks, here's some links.

Officer Dress Jacket: https://www.marineshop.net/male-dress-blue-coat-501718
Enlisted Dress Jacket: http://www.medalsofamerica.com/Item-...Drss_Blue_Jckt

The difference is the Officer one is more expensive & more accurate, and the Enlisted one is cheaper but less accurate and has a higher likelyhood of a jarhead yelling at you for "stolen valor." I'd suggest checking a nearby Army/Navy Surplus or Craigslist for a better jacket. Prussian collar recommended.

White gloves: https://www.marineshop.net/snap-wris...-gloves-500220
You could probably find them cheaper elsewhere.

Hat (cover): https://www.marineshop.net/officer-f...ver-set-501331
Chinstrap for hat: https://www.marineshop.net/black-chin-strap-500315

I'd dye the hat grey, if I were you, but white works.

In addition to that, the "devices" you want are...
Ribbon Bar: http://www.medalsofamerica.com/Item--i-RH12
If/when you get this: DO NOT FILL THE ENTIRE BAR. It can hold 10 ribbons, but the UNSC ODST leave the bottom row open.

Ribbons (suggested):

http://www.medalsofamerica.com/ItemL...ibbons--m-1138
http://www.medalsofamerica.com/ItemL...ibbons--m-1141
http://www.medalsofamerica.com/ItemL...ibbons--m-1144
http://www.medalsofamerica.com/ItemL...ibbons--m-1147
I'd suggest mixing-and-matching from the above, and attempting to buy darker-color ribbons.

Expert Badge: http://www.medalsofamerica.com/ItemL...-Badges--m-743
For this, choose one of the awards that's Marksman or Expert, per character. This goes low on the chest.

Paratrooper Qualification Badge: http://www.medalsofamerica.com/Item-...arachute_Badge
This item is an essential. You can use this, the SEAL trident (NOT recommended), or the French Paratrooper Badge.

The Aiguillete: http://www.supplyroom.com/us-militar...ckel-tips-cd-e
This is optional, and should only be for officers. You can also make one out of spray-painted rope.

I think that's about it!

See ya!

If you ever decide to continue this and add more Dress Uniforms I would love to see a concept for RvB dress uniforms for Project Freelancer. I have done a Tex and I know she probably doesn't have one but I would still love to make one for when I need a break from wearing it at a con and when my husband needs a handler for his Tie Pilot.

This is nifty! I'm thinking of doing something different though haha, more like formal attire for balls and the like. Particularly for Cortana and the females. After all, I doubt they're always in uniform.... Well the men are more likely to be in uniform than the women at such events I would presume.

if its a female spartan they are held to the same standards as the men, would be required to wear a formal uniform as well. maybe a skirt instead of slacks but a dress uniform in the same.

I would love to see a ball gown for Cortana though. please post up pics if you ever do one!

Now doing a spartan themed ball gown would be EPIC, I dont have that kind of skill set but would love to wear one.

i would love to see the designs, once my bank account recovers from the Tex build and my Juno Eclipse I might try to make one

This is pretty awesome, tho I think if I feel the need I'll be sticking to my Marine dress blues. They're a lot sexier =P

Edit: If you do this, please do so with respect towards the uniform that you are using to make this costume. A great many men and women have died for that uniform and as the OP mentioned, a great many Marines would like to strangle you for modifying it like that.

Please, just have some respect and sober mindedness while dealing with these items...

It's why I'd rather make and use my own designs.

Well, we have seen formal uniform for females in Halo.

Remember the beginning of Halo 2 (especially Anniversary) where Miranda Keyes, Johnson and Chief gotten medals? She had formal uniform and it was trousers, no skirt.

I bet females can pick to either wear trousers or a skirt.

ALso, I don't remember if and how many times we've seen them in comics now...

PS. Also, this is why I like more the new modified uniforms by 343i, they look very nice but they have this more futuristic look, so no one will ever blame you for putting an uniform you don't deserve, etc.

I would definitely say treat it like modern American military dress uniforms for sure, women are allowed to choose between trousers and skirts if they wish. Female covers, hats for non military types, are still a little dated looking, tho I believe the Marines recently allowed females to wear the male cover.

Not trying to say America is the way to go because America, I just haven't seen any other uniforms personally and I honestly think that Marine Corps uniforms are just the best, but Im a bit biased =P

If you're modifying the uniform to look the part if the dress uniforms in game, no one's going to know the difference if you do it well enough. Just don't go around in public, for the American crowd, telling everyone you see what you made it from. That's just inviting a bad time..

I really hope someone does make something like this tho, or like Mara said, the more futuristic looking uniforms

I think if you base the design after the uniform from Forward Until Dawn and not use a real military uniform as a starting point you'll be fine.

but keep in mind there are other fan groups that use a real military uniform as a base.
the Manticores from the Honor verse by David Weber come to mind, and they are not harassed about Stolen Valor.
it's all about presentation.
