Well, you've gotta have a little self-esteem I guess.

It might no always be what you want to hear, or right, but if you don't think it is, brush it off.

it's only a piece of plastic, it's not like a real person.

but there's technicallities that I have no clue about involved in BMI and stuff

Ill leave that to you guys ;]

I dont need a Wii to tell me I'm fat, Ill just yell at it and say the same thing I told this one health lady that came to our school to check how many of us are overweight.

"I dont need some stupid ass BMI test to tell you I'm a fat bastard"

I almost got a Damn referral :p

But hell even for a little girl how the hell do you let someone else's/somethings opinion effect you? My parents always taught me to value my own opinion above all others. Regardless though I think Nintendo needs to fix that problem, especially for little kids...which the system is practically made for :p

well was she fat or not? If she was fat, I don't see the problem. A lot of kids are fat these days. there is no sense in tip toeing around it. There is a pretty simple solution, do some bloody exercise and eat properly, society doesn't have a problem, you do. You really cant let what is essentially a calculator make you feel sad.

Plus, why would you buy Wii Fit if you didn't plan on losing weight anyway? No sense...

I'm fairly sure that game isn't even directed at kids.

I think this isnt a big deal to adults, but young teens and children will believe anything, think of how many shocked children there will be and think they are truly fat. They'll start starving themselves and going on diets they dont need, their healthy already.

It is, why else would the wii fit be integrated to work with games coming out? Nintendo mainly markets to young children, havent you seen all the wii fit commercials on TV? Kids are playing the thing.

EDIT EDIT: >>Vexona, the normal amount of fat is around 25%, For top athletes it's around 8%
And that means training a hell of a lot each day.. (remember 0% fat isnt good either)

Hm, isn't that in what I said? Yes around 6-8% (on avg) is probably the lowest that's healthy for males. Women athletes should never get that low because of the increased risk to develop health problems like amenorrhea. =\

Lol, yes 0% body fat would = dead. Fat is essential to your body. Having too little is just as dangerous as having too much.

Anywho, the fit and healthy ranges of fat% are just averages. I've seen them vary here and there because it's all pretty relative.I work with a personal trainer every day and my goal is set at 18-20% for example. It's a matter of preference and what you're trying to accomplish athletically with your body. A Marathon runner has different needs than a weight lifter, etc.

Woops so back on topic...! ;)

So the little girl was 10 years old, 92lbs and 4ft9" tall.

Height and Weights for Teen Girls Age Range

12-13 years 60 – 63 inches 95 – 105 lbs 50% (percentile)
14-15 years 63 – 64 inches 105 – 115 lbs 50% (percentile)
16-17 years 64 inches 115 – 120 lbs 50% (percentile)
18-20 years 64 inches 125 – 130 lbs 50%( percentile)

That sounds pretty normal. She seems on the tall side for her age, and it sounded like her activity levels were high. I think the thing is that Wii Fit was designed very generically. The wii fit doesn't purport to be a dietician or a personal trainer, so people shouldn't cry over what it tells them. It's just a nintendo board to do yoga and stuff on lol.

If you really want to feel fat little girl, buy a women's magazine. That will scar you for life like everyone else.

What race was the little girl? The reason I ask, is perhaps the Wii game was designed for Japanese children. The japanese have a far better diet than most, if not all, other developed countries, and generally speaking are a bit smaller in stature.

Here Here Vexona :) heheh The Wii fit should come with a Healthy Diet plan. I've gotten some jiggle cause I eat horrible stuff and I have been lazy about taking about 45 minutes a day to train :( And I measured myself the other day... argh...

I'm still gonna get myself a Wii fit. The Yoga, aerobics, and boxing will give me a good amount of fun and Cardio to ramp up to my usual routine.

And yes... stupid Women's magazine's and their airbrushed bimbos :\

Wii FTW!

Gah, if she has problems facing up to a console which you can TURN THE F*CK OFF, how's she going to survive in real life? Seriously, get this girl to a psychologist, she might kill herself because someone called her ugyl!

Be serious now, kids will believe anything from people and things they trust, kids like and trust their wii's so they believe what it says. It's like a parent to them saying they are fat, they believe it as truth and become upset about it. I think parents need to know what is going on with their kids, kids who truly believe they are fat when they are perfectly healthy already are in danger.

Amen. Nobody needs to tell me my physical appearance! I see it everyday in the mirror when I wake up!

I bought a Wii today online at Circuit City. It'll be here next week. If it tells me I'm fat, I'll just say, "So. What's your point?"

"No diet will remove all the fat from your body because the brain is entirely fat. Without a brain, you might look good, but all you could do is run for public office.” -- George Bernard Shaw
hee hee...

(I like what ha guy said, but if i remember correctly, the brain is only like 60% fat...oh well...)

one more thing...how much fat your body stores isnt just determined by your diet and activity levels. Think hormones and genetics people!

...about the girls self esteem. My mom was hella abusive and would always call me fat even though i was under weight throughout my childhood. I never turned to eating disorder or anything, but my self esteem was hella damaged in that ive had body image issue until a few months ago. I'm 20 now, and i finally got over all that. "Being "fat" in our society is seen as such a bad thing at times. I personally fancy chubby-ish guys though. A six pack covered by a snack pack is the shizz supreme in my book. Also, since ive given up the hardcore dieting that i use to do because i was convinced that i was never thin enough, ive gained a lil chub, and frankly i like it. I wouldnt mind if i gained more to be honest. I still have a personal trainer, and i stay active. My bloodwork is pretty dang perfect according to my doctors. I am happy and healthy, so whats the issue with mine or anyone else's extra chub. It's not a big deal people...so dont make it one. If wii says she's overweight, then dont make it a big deal. If you notice her wii diagnosis is upsetting her perhaps have a simple lil chat.

sorry for the rant...i just have issues with fatists (I'm not calling you one).

Did you get wii fit? or the wii itself? The wii doesnt come with wii fit.

I didn't think Wii Fit was even out yet, as it said to 'reserve my copy today'. I know there's an exercise plan already built into the Wii though. I thought that's what this was all about.

No, I think wii fit comes with it's own disc for it's wii fit styled games.

What you're thinking of is wii sports where they have exercise plans and make you do so many things a day to "get healthy" All it is, is a bunch of baseball, boxing, tennis, and golf, not much real exercise there.

I think my body would like to differ. After I played Wii Sports the first time. My right arm, left leg, and buttocks(did a lot of the bowling) were really hurting the next day. It felt like I had worked out the day before. Younger people probably wouldn't feel it as their activity levels are much higher than mine have been for a long time. For someone like me, just the Wii Sports would help out tremendously to get me back into some sort of shape.

The Wii boxing in the training mode will get you sweating quite a bit. The tennis and baseball did too. Any kind of fitness is a benefit. I used the boxing for my intense cardio training when I was in between Cardio Kickboxing training.

I just like the idea of a game that has fitness in it and it gives me more options since they are a lot of limitations on space and time for me.
